I helped a buddy build a Noveske Gen 1 lower this weekend and when we tested it out we found that it works fine with metal mags, troy battle mags but not with Pmags. The lower is not a chainsaw lower. The pmags would not drop free and had to be pulled out of the lower.

Is this normal?

It is not normal in my experience. Ive always gotten the Pmags to drop free in my 2 lowers. However have you tried it with an upper on it? I did have a lower where the Pmags did not drop free on their own without the upper attached, but had no issues with an upper on it. Hope that helps.

This has been well covered previously.
A quick search will show you that you need to lightly file/sand the back of the mag to get them to reliably drop free from some lowers.

Yes we did have it on an upper as well.

Well yes and no...I am asking specifically to Noveske lowers as in is this normal for all Noveske lowers or is this an isolated case?....I just bought a Noveske SBR today and am wondering if I am going to have this issue as well. I run several brands of lowers and have not had this issue. I currently have more than a few Noveske uppers but none of their lowers.

Ah, gotcha.
Anyway, I threw in bunch of threads in my earlier post if you need to see how to get the PMags to work in your lower.

FWIW- none of the Noveske lowers I have experience on needed to have PMags filed, but remember that the issue might not be with the lower but rather the batch of mags.

Yea I took a look at your link thanks for all that info!!!! yea I have never experienced the issue myself with LMT, Colt, Spikes, CDD, S&W, BCM so I was a little surprised to see that in a Noveske lower...I am a huge fan of Noveske...Looking to get another lower and plan on getting a Noveske lower, might go Gen II but it's a lot of coin, maybe a BCM is in order and a little cheaper.

My Pmags I tried are Gen 2 (version before the current M) black and windowed.

Is it possible that when you installed the mag catch assembly that it might have been turned one revolution too many? Backing off one revolution might solve the problem.

Similar issue: I have two Noveske Gen 1 lowers and some of my Rev M PMags (windowed and regular) don't drop free under their own weight when empty. Once some sand gets in there you have to give them a solid tug to get them out. Lancers, Troys, or USGI mags fall right out, sandy or not.

I have three Noveske matched uppers/lowers. For two of them I had to do some sanding on Pmags to get them to drop freely.

My N4 gen 1 was like that at first but it loosened up after a while

I've had numerous pmag issues with LMT lowers, but never Noveske. I have seen (and owned) several slightly wonky Noveske lowers, though.

We're also waiting to see how our Noveske gen2 lowers handle the 3rd gen PMAGs once those hit market.

fwiw, my gen2 Noveske lower drops empty PMAGs free just fine. Upper on that one is BCM.

Okay, I am not trolling. But with all of the talk of this rifle is crap and these are uber awesome. I find it funny when it's a favored brand, nobody points that out on the "list". I just get a kick out of the brand bashing/loyalty that is prevalent in the numerous gun forums. I love the Black Rifle, and am loyal to no brand.

I'll make a mental note that some Noveske & LMT lowers has had issue's with PMAG's.

Who makes the Noveske lowers? I have read it was CMT. Still the case?

p mags are one of the top mags, but with that said, Magpul has done such things as change follower designs ( New follower doesn't come up as high as the old one and some guns may not lock open on the last shot). The thicker 'Ribs" on the back of the mags that seem to be causing the issue on this post.
I hear they are coming out with a 3rd generation design and let's hope this is the Fix.
For my latest build I went with Bravo company mags. Made by D&H and have the Magpul anti tip follower. Brownells also makes a top magazine.

I hope those in the know understand that I am not trolling with this comment.

...but I can't help but notice the "My Model 1 Sales has this problem" answers are always "Get rid of that POS" yet when its "My Noveske has the same problem" answers are always file the magazine, don't shoot WOLF, etc etc.

Just an observation.

I had a new gen 1 Novekse lower that wouldn't drop any mags free (colt 20rd, pmag previous gen 30rd/20rd, gi mags.) A quick email to Noveske and they said send it in, and sent me a brand new lower that is perfect. Total time without the lower was probably a week if I remember right. They were kinda slow to answer my email, so I'd suggest calling if you are in a hurry, I wasn't so the 3-4 days for them to answer my email was no big deal.

Actually there is a lot of consistency here if you think about it. It kinda goes like this... "don't bother polishing a turd, flush it - but a fine machine might need a little attention to bring it up to speed." Anyway, it makes sense to get the best rifle you can afford and then wring out the little issues before they come back to bite you.

Neither of my noveske lowers have any issue with pmags dropping free.
