I had a chance to do something a little different than your average Appleseed last weekend. A full distance Appleseed at camp Atterbury military base in Southern Indiana. We got to use the military pop ups & shot the AQT targets at 100, 200 transition to sitting, 300 transition to prone & 400 prone. :D

My home range only has 25, 50 & 100 yard lanes. I wasn't sure what gun to use as my daughter also wanted to shoot. She just turned 15 and made it through a regular 25 yard / .22 rimfire Appleseed just fine. She got the 14.5" & the Tijicon. I stuck it out with a Colt Sporter 20" & iron sights.

I just had to post up that it was a blast & the iron sighted Colt did great even with my 40-ish almost 50-ish year old eyes. I didn't shoot expert but got damn close @ only 1 point shy.

There's a few pics posted up on the Appleseed forum. Take a look if you'd like.

cool cool man good hear your daughter is a shooter. I remember shooting 500m in the U.S.M.C hard to tell on impacts but fun none the less

Once you learn to shoot at a distance it becomes almost easy even with moving targets. Then again I've done this alot. Great job!

Thanks! The kid is a deadeye with her scoped 10/22 compact & is pretty good off the bench @ 100 yards with an AR-15 but running the AR at the Appleseed was still a bit too heavy for her. She stuck it out for the 1st half day of shooting in the 95 degree heat but headed to the A/C in the truck & her cell phone for the remainder of Saturday.

She would like me to build her a light weight pencil barreled *gasp* PINK AR for a fall Appleseed. :haha:

I remember the first time I shot out to 400. You really learn a lot about your rifle, how to shoot,, trajectory, what works, and what doesn't. It also becomes MUCH easier to shoot within 100 yards.

I love shooting long range. I just wish I could see the impacts/know how I am doing. Steel is nice for the instant report, but past 500 you are lucky to hear the hit.

Nice! Glad to see someone getting out to distance. I have taken one of my rifles to 200. I would love to be able to get out to 4-500 someday.

Bumping up my old thread because I was back at Atterbury Army base last Sunday. This time beating my previous best score with a 231/250 on the first AQT & shot another Rifleman score on the second. Shooting 400 yards is a blast. You've gotta find one of these KD shoots in your area.

There's a few new pictures in the AAR over on the Appleseed forum: http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=32509.0

I made two changes to the gun. I went from Federal M855 ammo to PRVI 75 gr & swapped my irons for my Trijicon TR20. I switched to 75 gr thinking there would be more wind in October but it was straight into our faces most of the day. The scope helped a bit but only at 400 yards. I kept zoom at ~4.5x. My eyes aren't all that bad at distance even though they're getting old.

Kool beans.
Wish I could find somewhere within reasonable driving distance here in VA with a range over 200 yds.
Maybe I'll just have to head down to a NC Apple shoot.
