Good looking pig sticker you have there.

I have a Camillus BK7 (back when Beckers were made by them) and have nothing but praise for the blade. I did however toss the cheap nylon sheath and replaced the factory Grivory scales with green canvas Micarta ones.

My apologies for the thread-jack.

Where did you find such scales?

To the OP: Did you have much trouble with the edge, brining it to preferred sharpness? I have a BK2, and the grind on it was pretty wide. I spent a lot of time narrowing the profile.

Thanks!

Becker sells the the Micarta Scales separately, though it's kind of pricey.

Here's the Micarta Scales from Becker that I added to the BK-9 and BK-11 CSM.

I didn't touch-up the edge since this one is as is from the manufacture and factory sharp!

I picked mine up from Tomar's Ka-Bars (http://www.tomarskabars.com/BK-HNDL-INFO.html) for $37.

CLHC - that BK-17 looks nice! And that's not a bad price, when they throw in a sheath like that.

I am a fan of 1095 steel for wilderness use. It's a lot easier to make a spark with a piece of flint, and the blade can be quickly resharpened in the field.

I have a couple of RAT-3 fixed blades i like, but I may give that BK-17 a try. Thanks for the pics!

Forced patina, custom scales, good looking job on that BK-7 crowdog!

SeriousStudent, this Becker BK-17 sure is a great feeling in the hand knife to be sure! It is already fast becoming one of my favorite Becker although pretty much all of them is hard to be biased against.

The sheath isn't too bad and for a knife that is sub $60[ish], I can't complain.

There's quite a number of custom sheath makers out there to try out. Will see how goes it.

My recommendation is http://godspeedtactical.com/

His fit and finish is excellent. Blade retention on the sheath I recieved was perfect imo.
Quick and friendly.
Tell him Crowdog sent you.
