Purchased a new 6920 a few yrs ago and it's time to mod it. What are the current best options for a rail for it that requires no mod to FSB?

In the past I was looking at the DD Omega 7.0 Rail but I'd like to know if anything newer, lighter, better has come along. I'd prefer that the rail not go beyond the FSB. Pics would be great. I'm also not sure if the 9.0 would work. For whatever reason everyone stopped posting whats on their guns in the pic thread.

Thx.

I have been very happy with my centurion FSB cut handguard.
Minimal work, superb return on investment.

The round, smaller diameter front ends seem to me the trend now. Allowing you to put rail where you want it and need it.

I like the Troy Alpha and the new Midwest Industries Gen2 SS rail looks promising as well.

I'd go with a Centurion Arms or KAC rail

I'm not much of a photographer, but if you've got an hour to spare these Centurion rails do it for me.

I'd get the standard Centurion 7" for a 6920. But, that's just me. You need to decide what fits you and what you expect it to do.

Unless a person has very short arms, a 7'' handguard or rail is almost always a limiting factor. Proper and modern techniques basically require a longer handguard. Unless it has been dictated to you that a 7'' rail is mandatory in order to meet some kind of regulation, there is no logical reason to limit yourself.

I like my Midwest Industries seven inch drop in, but that centurion looks good. I like the option of adding your light in front of the gas block.

If this is a duty type, Centurion is hard to beat. The rail options are awesome.

Thanks guys, u saved me a ton of work. I'm now leaning towards the Centurion c4 cutout rail. Can anyone confirm if this will work on the 6920? I see they also offer gas blocks, what exactly are these for and will I need or want it?

Also looking to add a eotech Xps3, troy BUIS, Magpul grips, and magpul ctr stock.

Thanks guys, u saved me a ton of work. I'm now leaning towards the Centurion c4 cutout rail. Can anyone confirm if this will work on the 6920? Just make sure you get the carbine cutout rail not the midlength. I see they also offer gas blocks, what exactly are these for and will I need or want it? You have a fixed front sight already (that's where the gas tube is anchored above the tiny port hole cut in the barrel). There's no need for a gas block. If you wanted a continuous rail, you would shave down the existing front sight and mount the rail over it. In that case, you would no longer want the cutout rail.

Also looking to add a eotech Xps3, troy BUIS, Magpul grips, and magpul ctr stock. If it were me, I would consider firing the weapon as is before adding too much furniture. I would say the Troy would be very suitable, but the other stuff might change with research and experience with your weapons. The optics choice has always been simple for me when it came to red dots. I think they are stated nicely here (https://sites.google.com/site/tacticalyellowvisor/recommentations/ar-optic-recommendations). Then again, since I don't know your design intent for this build I can't say a Red Dot is even the right choice. If you're keeping it simple the carry handle sights may be all you want after some range time. As for the grips, same advice. Research and understanding design intent will carry you a long way. More rob_s love, but this video (http://youtu.be/C4bsV9qp8YQ) explains some pros and cons of some of the more popular options out there. My hands are not as big as Rob's and for that reason I went a direction that would make no sense for a guy with big hands.

See thoughts in red above. Hope this helps a little. The black rifle bug can be overwhelming since the add-ons can end up costing more than the rifle itself. In my case, most of the local places don't even carry this gear so there's a lot of blind buys on my part (and occasional return postage). In the end, if you understand your weapons system and what you need it to do for you it will help you consolidate your funds into effective purchases. Also note, when the time comes to spend some hard earned money, remember which vendors are active members and sponsors here. They take good care of us.

Sorry if this sounds preachy or condescending, that's not my intent. I'm hoping maybe you won't make some of the costly mistakes I've made with my credit card.

I have had great success with the DD EZCar 7.0, it's lightweight and does not break the bank. I recently picked up a DD V1 and IM really liking the FAB cutout rail. I have been looking strongly at the centurion C4 fsb for my 6920 though

The Vltor CASV rails are often overlooked. I like them, as rails can be added by the user where wanted or needed, leaving a smooth gripping surface everywhere else. The CASV's addition of a "unifying" rail makes for a single linear mounting surface across the top of the handguard. For those that do not want to remove a FSB or the delta ring assembly the CASV is a good solution.

Another thing to keep in mind regarding the Vltor rail is that there is a stepped model for use with EOTechs, which you mentioned you where interested in. It's called the CASV-ELS.

Sorry, I could not find a picture of it attached to a standard (14.5 or 16 inch) length barrel with the EOTech still attached, but hopefully you get the idea:
