I did a search to make sure no one had reviewed this and didn't come up with anything substantial.

Upon opening the mailer you find some very simple components. The adapter rail, a set screw, an allen wrench, the mounting screw and decal.

CNC machined from 6061-T6 Aluminum the mount The Strikemark mount comes in at a mere 4 inches. The mount has to slide on so if you are running flip up sights those will need to come off. If you have a free float rail and pinned FSB you will need to mount the Strikemark on the rear of the upper receiver. There are 5 different mounting positions. However with my Canon Powershot only 2 were usable if mounting off the left side. The middle location is accesible but only if you offset the camera then screw in the set screw and realign the camera. Four positions were easily accessible off the right. The 5th hole isn't easily accessible from either side so it's pretty much a wash because the mounting screw can't turn so you would have to turn the camera instead of the screw. The mounting screw is threaded 1/4x20 so most cameras should fit.

Both my point and shoot as well as my DSLR fit. Although, while taking much higher quality video, I can't see running a DSLR. Upon further inspection you'll notice the bottom of the mount does not have sharp edges but have been taken down on a 45* angle. A nice touch in case you accidently whack the mount. The set screw has a nylon tip that won't mar you're rifle. The mounting screw is easy to get hand tight, but only shooting will tell how easily it comes loose. The finish is a nice matte black hardcoat anodized finish that won't stand out and looks like it should be on a rifle. My particular cameras could not "look through" the sight, so that may not be possible. I haven't gotten it out to the range yet but I will this week.

This is a great little add on that could be used on a hunt or 3 Gun comp and at $34.95 + free U.S. shipping and a lifetime warranty, I would say it's well worth it. Stayed tuned for a video later this week.

Thanks for reviewing this. I wasn't even aware it existed and it's pretty much exactly what I need.

Ok, you can't post this without taking some video. :D

It'd be cool if you could get vid/audio right behind the shell deflector on a F/A setup.

I have a Strikemark mount for my ContourROAM camera and it's solid. Much better than the plastic Contour brand mount. Holds the camera nice and sturdy, even when shooting mounted in the rifle. I used it to film this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFR0v3VwdPw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

With regular point and shoot cameras I would be a little worried about them malfunctioning because of the vibration of the firearm. Has anyone had this issue?

Hopefully I'll get some video later this week.

Nice video WARPIG, I can tell you mine won't be near that nice. What software are you using for editing?

I used Sony Vegas Pro...takes a little getting used to, but if you're relatively computer literate and have the time to mess with it, it's a fairly simple program. I'm still learning though :D

John Saunders here from Strikemark. @QuackXP - We haven't had any particular issues regarding vibration with any digital cameras. The wingnut lets you clamp the camera down pretty tight and the tripod threads are usually quite secure.

Contours or GoPro cameras offer more protection from debris, vibration, water, etc and really put out phenomenal video quality for the price. My favorite is the GoPro Hero2.

Here's a recent video made from Contour & GoPro footage - http://youtu.be/77ka55cwt0U?hd=1

A lot sturdier than I expected! Strikemark makes an excellent product!

It was a lot of fun. If I had a GoPro camera I wouldn't hesitate to buy their mount. I liked it mounted as far back as possible. Unfortunately I didn't get all the footage I wanted because it was over 100*F when I was at the range.

You trying mounting the camera facing back at you? Can give some cool "shooter" footage - even if it is a little narcissistic ;)

No, I was also trying to get some good footage of the Ares Effin A comp. Let me tell you, it is awesome!

I didn't realize it, but the Strikemark picatinney mounts have to be slid on. If you want to mount a camera at the rear of the rail, it means you have to remove everything from the whole rail. Awkward and less convenient for a device that one is going to mount only temporarily. Major points off for Strikemark.

Why would you need to remove everything? All I did was remove my BUIS pull the charging handle back a little and slide it on.

If they had designed it to clamp on to the picatinney rail like most other picatinney accessories, you wouldn't have to remove anything. Disappointing design (to me, YMMV) for an accessory for an occasional use item that's going to go on an off in the field. Seems to me that they missed the boat on this device.

I usually just keep mine mounted. It's so low profile (at least for the Contour mount) it doesn't really bug me.

Yeah, sorry. I was referring to the camera tripod mount the OP detailed. Not something I want mounted all the time.

Haha yeah I couldn't imagine you'd want to have that thing hanging off your rifle all the time...haha...I guess it all depends on everything you need to take off to put it on. I imagine they designed it with being stable in mind, without the risk of a clamp coming loose. I know there are plenty of clamp mounts that won't rattle loose if put on correctly, but maybe they wanted to eliminate the possibility all together.

I would LOVE to see this product with a LaRue QD throw lever setup. That would be tits!

I just got the Contour one. Its hard as hell to get the camera on it. It gets easier after breaking the camera in a bit (mine was brand new). Helped after I dropped some lube onto the rails too. Sucked my brand new $400 camera got scratched up while messing with it though...

It's called the LAV shot! :p
