View Full Version : Colorado fires
About to burn the Air Force Academy down. My best friend's mom's house burned down last night. 200ft wall of flames. Complete and utter destruction.

These are pics of the Waldo Canyon fire. We could use prayers if that is your thing.

I'm down in Denver, but the winds have just been insane! Like the exhaust from a jet engine. A thunderstorm popped up west of Denver yesterday afternoon, but the lightening started more fires than the rain spritzing put out.
High winds, record heat and low snow pack. Add in all the beetle kill trees and its like a perfect storm.
I wonder if Hoser got pulled in when the C130s got activated?
Wow, quite impressive photos. AFA football stadium in the foreground of the first shot.
My goodness, prayers sent and hopefully everyone is able to get out in time. Just such a heart wrenching reminder to be prepared as much as possible when it comes to disaster preparedness.
Just found this on another site...

Wow, this is just terrible! Prayers are inbound...
I was born and raised in Texas, a Texan thru and thru, but the only state I would move to (and have been seriously considering it) is Colorado.
How much of the state is this affecting?
Is the one in Ft. Co still burning? I could see that one from my house for the a couple of weeks.
While it sucks, and some things that are lost can never be replaced.....fire is natural. Sometimes it is needed, and in the long run the ecosystem will be better off...
(and Ironman, as a fellow native Texan i assure you that you'd want to move to the state just a bit north...unless you really dig the Austin vibe then CO would be great)

My family is currently right next to the High Park Fire, they send me pics all the time. What a mess. So sad.
Wow if this was an intentionally set fire, i hope the turds that did are found and prosecuted.

Horrible to see. And we're into the fire season here in Montana too. Hundred degree plus temps with 50-60 mph winds. Sixty homes lost yesterday in the Dahl Fire near Roundup, less than an hour north of my home.
Anybody remember the news story a couple of months back about an article in one of the al Qaeda magazines providing instructions to U.S. domestic Islamist terrorists on how to build and set fire bombs to trigger forest fires in western states?

Zombie Apocalypse SHTFers should take a lesson. This is what a real disaster looks like.

Yeah, I'm just south of the fire in the foothills and it's been pretty crazy for the last month or so in this state and things have only gotten worse. I can't believe how hot, dry & windy it's been this season. It rained briefly last night but it wasn't much. We sure could use some moisture though. Thoughts are with those in the fire's path and those tasked with trying to fight the blazes. I hope everyone remains safe.

Sure is. At 87,000+ acres it's the 2nd largest in Colorado history & with 257 homes destroyed it's the most destructive. They now put containment at 75% (HUGE improvement) and set the date for full containment near July 15th. This is great news considering that they originally were worried it would take fall to get this one under control. The cost has surpassed $33.5mil already.
