Not the best, just your favorite and maybe why. I can't answer as I have only had experiance with one (9" larues). Just prepping for rifle#2.

Maybe the answer should be which one is your favorite you would get right now. A lot of new options out there over the last few years between the new tubes: Rainier, NSR, DD, Troy etc... The there are the centurian, DD has like 3 or 4 other good flavors, whatever larue has on the predat's, VIS, etc....

Thanks

1st) Knights Armament URX 3.1 - I love 13.5" rails, i love how it's modular yet still has 4 sides. I personally don't like "tube" style. I love how they included some rail space in the front and rear of the rail.

2nd) Midwest Industries Gen 2 Two Piece - It's light, it works with the standard barrel nut and is piston compatible.

I don't own any others so i can't comment. Others that i'm really interested in and may be in my future are the Noveske NSR and DD RIS II. :neo:

Troy Alpha for modular tube style

^^^ I agree with the above post. I handled a Centurion and was very impressed with the profile however I'm partial to the Troy. I have a 9" & two 13" Alpha rails, if Troy made the Alpha for the .308 I would get it too.

This has been beat to death lately.

Magpul MOE + IWC components for value setup - almost as modular as a railed handguard for sling and light mounting with IWCs stuff. Cheap.

Centurion C4 for railed setup - great value IMO, integral QD, stupid-simple install, the list goes on..

Centurion C4 for railed. I like my Troy Alpha for for tubular but I have not had an opportunity to try the Noveske NSR yet so I can't compare the two.

Daniel Defense RIS-II is my current favorite and has been so for some time. My only gripe is the lack of QD sling mounts.

Daniel Defense M4A1 RIS II.

Its incredible strong with its lock up system, is anti-rotational, and has passed Mil testing, and is part of the SOPMOD Block II program.

I also like the FDE color it comes in...

Ive had experence with yhm quad rails, dd omega rails, troy quad rail (cant remember what exact model) and troy trx/alpha rails. My favorite is the troy alpha. It is very light weight, but also very slim/ low profile. The low cost is also a bonus (found a 13 inch alpha with front sight for about 210 before shipping)

1. MRP chassis: I like the profile, length, simplicity, the rail can't come loose, and ability to service/replace barrels quickly and easily on my own once their shot out.

2. DD MK18 RIS II: I like the profile, length, solid lockup (anti-rotation), and the ability to remove the bottom rail to service the barrel.

I put the MI 2 piece Gen 2 free float on my AR 3 weeks ago and love it. Light, easy to install, doesn't move once it's tightened down, and more affordable than many others.

After using my Troy TRX Extreme 13" on a 14.5" DD light weight -- I won't ever go back to another rail system.

I get everything I need out of the Troy in a slim light weight profile.

Anyone like the VLTOR rails? This rail came on my Colt so it's the only rail I've experienced so I do not have any other comparisons.

A week ago I would have said the Troy Alpha rail. However I think the new Noveske NSR rail is a major contender.

I like the looks of the troy a bit better. However the mounting method of the Noveske is superior.

I have a Troy TRX Extreme, MRF and LaRue 13.3"

Honestly, for a light weight setup I can't see much beating the TRX rail, it's light, has attachable rail sections and the thin profile allows a good grip for anyone. I feel just as comfortable with it as my fiancé with her tiny girl hands ;-)

For something with 4 rails, I love my LaRue and have not had any reason to complain. Easy install, reletivly light weight, and very rugged.

I have a DD Omega on my .50 Beowulf. Love it, very narrow, easy install and solid.

I have a 10" and 7" DD lite on two other AR's. Love the barrel nut/lockup. Not quite as narrow as the Omega.

Only negatives on the DD's are the lack of QD swivel sockets for a sling.

Who makes a nice narrow quad rail with QD sockets that doesn't clamp onto the stock delta ring?

LaRue still has my favorite profile.

THIS!

I'd have to pick the DD RIS 2 or whatever... the one that's NOT a ****ing I beam.. That'd be my first choice because you get a continuous top rail.

Second pick would be LaRetard's rail because it's the same profile as KAC RAS.

DD RIS II - I like both lengths:

I really like centurion rails, and I've tried a lot of rails. I love the use of a standard barrel nut, the way it locks up, the profile, the light weight, and the machining is second to none. You really have to hold one to appreciate how nice it is. I feel like I could cut myself on the rails of many hand guards, but not the centurion.

Moe hand guards don't fit my hands well. I don't mind the issued kac ras I carry, but I'd like it longer. I don't mind the standard plastic ones, but it limits light placement and vfgs. The Noveske/SWS rail isn't bad, but is kind of heavy and uses a propriety nut. The Samson star series is just pain heavy and does nothing the centurion can do better. DD rails aren't bad and are my second choice, but I still like centurion better.

I don't have first hand experience with the tubes like troy alphas, noveske nsr, samson evolution, or kac urx 3, but they all look great. I have done some research into them and I feel the nsr is the best because it uses a new standard (the keymod system), is the lightest, and smallest diameter. I'd give the Samson evolution a nod because of the price, the standard nut, and the ability to fit a suppressor within the hand guard. The kac urx looks the best imo. If it came installed, I wouldn't change it.

HA! Ive got my 12.0 Lite covered in Larue index clips, helps lessen that I beam feel a bit without making the rail feel huge like most covers Ive tried. My samson 9" tube is on my wifle (wife's rifle) and I have to admit, it feels nice but adding rail sections makes it bulky as hell like it was an engineering after thought IMO. I cant put an AFG2 on it without it feeling and looking like a football bat.

DD RIS II = WIN. Fit is perfect, Light and the overall diameter feels perfect for me. Rock solid and has anti-rotational tabs.

I've had the lite rails and they're somewhat bulky even though they are very light.

Larue 12" rail would be my 2nd choice of the dd ris rails.

Ready to get my gen 2 noveske lower. This lower is for sale. btw:D

I have a 13" VTAC TRX Extreme on my 14.5" BCM and it has definitely changed my mind on which rail I prefer. Before the TRX I thought any AR should have a quad rail, but that's not the case with me anymore. The TRX is light, slim, and you can add accessories were you want with the included rail sections. With a quad rail there is just so much unneeded rail, witch lends its self to being bulky and uncomfortable. Just about any of the new modular rails gets my vote.

I like DD and centurion, but I prefer the slightly wider profile of the centurion, and overall shape. Plus it is an amazing specimen, locks up tight, and they have two anti rotation tabs. as well as the two QD sockets which are also limited rotation.

I am partial to the VLTOR CASV-EL. Brain dead simple install. Plenty of rail-estate and the ability to put rails where I want is nice. Like how it feels without rails. No way it will rotate. Locks up solidly and is reversable if you choose to go another route. DD Omega does this also but for a few $ less than the DD Omega I think the CASV is a better option IMHO.

I also think it looks pretty cool. :)

The only downside as I see with it is when you use an Eotech you can't use your BUIS as the optic sits high enough to block it. No issues with an Aimpoint and a low height mount.

It's hard to beat the DD omega. No special tools or skills needed - it just drops right on and locks up rock solid.

Can you explain why you would rather have useless rails covering your hand guard, why the added weight. Wouldn't you rather add rails where you want and need them? I get the attraction to quad rails, I used to think a rifle only looked good with them. I hope you've a least spent some time with some modular rails. To each there own!
