As the title says, I'm looking for 3/16ths inch about 1 1/2" long splined studs like the one you find on scope rings, where the stud runs all the way across the rail and a grooved piece on the other side of the rail allows you to tighten the scope ring to the rail.

Anybody have any idea where I can find these types of studs?

Can't seem to find them via Google so I'm hoping an industry specialist here may be able to point me in the right direction.

Thank you in advance.

I bought a pack of the socket head cap screws.
Black-oxide Alloy Steel Socket Head Cap Screw, 10-32 Thread, 1-1/4" Length

How many do you need?
I only needed 2, but unfortunately they come in a pack of 50.
I could share some.
I used them to replace the big nut on the LMT buis.

In a pinch I could resort to using cap head screws, but I'd prefer using splined studs and securing the opposite end with a nut that can be manipulated with your fingers and thumb to tighten and loosen.

This is the type of nut I would like to use, as seen on these Vltor mounts: http://www.vltor.com/scount-mount-cge.htm

These are the type of splined studs I'd prefer using, only I need them in a smaller size that I can't seem to find in (3/16" x 1 1/2"): http://www.bimeccengineering.com/spline-wheel-stud.html

Burris and other scope ring makers are using them so they must be getting them somewhere.

Like I said, I could use 2 cap screws and it might be cheaper overall, but I want to find the preferred parts before bailing on the idea.

If the project looks promising to produce in numbers I'd buy the remaining stock that you have, but I won't know the details until I talk to a machinist to determine the cost to make my mount.

For the test part I'll likely pick up 2 cap head screws at the local Lowe's later today and see how they work on the prototype.....and cross my fingers that I can find what I want later.

Most of these are not 3/16th but 10 - 32 or M5 .8.

The M5 with 0.8 thread pitch is very common, I have been getting titanium bolts and nuts in this size to cut weight. If my mounts originally came with 10-32 I change them out to the slightly larger M5 .8.

The M5 nuts will thread on a 10-32 but not the other way. I believe the 10-32 uses a #21 drill and the M5 a #19 drill.

You can get these in 25, 30 and 35 MM lengths, with 25.4 an inch.

The biggest weight reduction is from the nuts.

I'd love to get these, but what I need to know is: WHERE?

The technical aspects are less important than finding the splined studs in a size that I can use.

Burris and other scope ring makers are using them so they must be getting them somewhere.

I would bet they are making them or jobbing them out.
The specific dimensions of each manufacturers rings do not fit into off-the-shelf hardware world very well.
Your best bet to source them would be to contact the ring makers and ask if they will sell them to you.
Otherwise, draw up what you need and go source it yourself...
