Cerakote is imo the best out there

okay, but that only answers part of my question.where do i have it professionally done, who does reasonable good work?also how do i ship it for the work to be done:completed or apart?
I spray them all, and i agree that cerakote is hard to beat...While firearm coatings is half my business, a good krylon job will serve most people well.;)
Why ship it out. You can do it yourself with Krylon. It easy to do and can be touched up with Krylon as necessary.

krylon is the cheap and easy way to go. If youre looking to get a little better then find someone local to cerakote it for you.

You can send it directly to Cerakote. On their website they have a list of NIC certified applicators and you can use the list to find one near you. http://www.cerakoteguncoatings.com/resource/locator/
Most would prefer you send your parts stripped, the gunsmith/applicator who did mine charges extra if he has to strip down the item.

thank you, this is what i was looking for!thank you to all that have replied in my help!
In my experience, anything with a 'wonder treatment' will end up fading, chipping off, etc. with use.
I'd say save your $ and put it towards something that will net you a greater return as a shooter. Krylon, Rustoleum, Aervoe, etc. all the way

You can also change your mind & go with another color later if it so moves you!
how about a duaracoat camo kit?
Im not a big fan of duracoat, its honestly not much better than krylon. My cousin is a gun smith and he was using duracoat on his projects before he switch to cerakote and the duracoat would not hold up well at all in comparison.

Definitely. Or overspray with a color to gradually change the shade (lighter to darker or vice versa)
i just couldnt imagin spray painting a 1k plus dollar gun. maybe its just me?
It's easy after the first time you do it. It's a functional additive...and if you treat your rifle like a tool then it's no biggie :)

+1...Duracoat is not as durable as 1 might think.

Plus 1 ...i have tried Gunkote (tough as nails but the flat black isn't) and alumahyde (not nearly as tough but better then paint and looks great). Can you detail strip the gun? If you can, I'd do it myself. In my experience, just because you pay somebody else to do it, it is no guaranty they will do a better job then you (and might do it worse!). I gunkoted 2 AK's using nothing more then a heat gun, my oven (the guns would only fit diagonally, but they fit) an oven thermometer (not optional) and my shower stall for a spray booth (i covered the walls with plastic sheet). I am very satisfied with how the guns came out.

I understand the feeling, when I cerakoted my rifle and glock I remember standing there with the hvlp gun in my hand saying to myself "do I really want to do this?" But at the end of the day im glad I did it.
