I have this A1 style upper and a lower that I assembled. I'm trying to decide on a barrel for this configuration. I'm thinking a 14.5" carbine or midlength barrel; or maybe even a 16" midlength. I'm just curious what type of barrel configuration other users might put on this setup? Also; does any know where to get good standard height front site bases? All opinions are welcome.

I think a 16" LW midlength from BCM or Daniel Defense is hard to beat. Of course you've got a retro look going there so 14.5" might be better. Love the A1 look so far.

If you can't get an A1 height FSB I wonder if the front post can be shaved down a little? I think only 0.04" needs to be removed if in an F marked FSB.

I've been looking at the lightweight 14.5" carbine length from BCM.

I like the 20" idea if I had an A1 stock on the lower receiver.

I've been looking at a possible Colt 653 retro type clone since I have the A1 upper and CAR style stock. Here's a link to the rifle I'm thinking about.

I'd go with the 14.5 carbine length in order to achieve this look

I love the look! In that case I change my recommendation from 14.5" middy to carbine gas on the BCM pencil barrel. :D

I would go with the 653 retro.

I've been doing some reading and it looks that the Colt 723 (http://imageevent.com/willyp/firearmsalbums/uscoltarmalitem16ar15556/coltmodel723carbine556;jsessionid=mk0mco2193.panda_s) would be a more suitable clone for the way mine has been set up so far.
