How much you want to bet that its part of some dumbass 'appeasement' thing.

You know, throwing them a bone so they don't feel so 'oppressed' by the UN nuke BS.

The UN is so screwed up it is a laughing-crying shame. I think Iran and Libya among others have also been members of committees on human rights, etc.

It is a travesty that the US continues to fund this corrupt, ineffective, anti-Western organization. Yet every administration has participated and funded this cesspool of third world tyrants and first world globalists.

Under the best of circumstances, the UN can barely find its ass with both hands. Putting Iran in charge of the talks must give the NRA a relatively warm feeling.

Check out the blurb on the ATT on the Forbes magazine web site, then contrast it with the latest post on the NRA/ILA website. The first two days of the talks were pretty much UN business as usual.

Damn, look at the time. Only 2120 hrs. Need to get back to the reloading press.

On a side note: IF this does pass, I will not register one firearm in my house. Period.

Yep, tragic boating accident took them all down.

In other news, Syria will chair a UN conference on human rights and Somalia will chair a convention on effective government.

Guns are evil. I don't have any, and I've never know anyone who had one or fired one. We are all one global human family! Peace through social justice!

The UN, what a effin joke. What we really need is to withdraw from the UN and kick them off our shore.

How did it ever get to this?

Weakness combined with idealology and even more weakness. No matter the outcome, my guns will never be lost to such blatant insanity.

This is the singular question that every great civilization has asked itself as they circled the bowl.

The world is full of socialists, communist, and totalitarianism. Not sure why its such a shock the UN wouldn't be chocked full of them. We have countries with VETO powers who regularly execute political dissidents, and we have states in our own country where its illegal to own a hollow point bullet.

Our few "free states" are some of the last bastions of freedom in the world.

that the treaty will, if ratified, eventually require gun registration in the U.S.

This part bothers me. Since when does the UN make US policy ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but something like that would have to be voted on and passed by Congress & Senate correct ?

There is a thread discussing this. The short version is that the Pres must sign and two/thirds of the Senate must ratify. Even without ratification, the treaty can 1) cut off or reduce imports from countries that do comply and 2) can be customary international law and bear down on the US. In the latter case, there are judges who openly argue for considering such law when making their decisions on US law. I believe Justice Ginsburg is currently an advocate of this position.
