I may have missed it, but are there any lightweight rails like Troy's VTAC and TRX-Extreme (and the new Alpha series with a more sturdy attachment) coming from known companies such as LaRue, Daniel Defense, LMT, etc.? aka, top rail with remaining rails where you need them.

Specifically, a 9" that will fit a 16" mid-length upper keeping the FSB (knowing that the FSB needs to be removed to attach the rail). I know Wilson Combat has their T.R.I.M. - Tactical Rail Interface, Modular, but they have it in 9.3" and that wouldn't fit a 16" mid-length upper and keep the FSB where it's at.

Ah, the English language. Stated: rails like Troy coming from known companies does not imply Troy is not a known company. Capiche? http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/smiley_bucktooth.gif

Ah, it actually kind of does the way you originally phrased it [and without your disclaimer]. But I stand corrected.

The Samson is also a viable contender. I spent 20 min at the SHOT show looking at and getting a demo from the Samson rep and I will be trying on out one of these days, replacing a DD Lite Rail 10 on a gun (carbine gas/low profile gas block).

Good luck!

The Samson is good to go. I will be purchasing another (9 inch) on Friday for my mid length carbine.

If you really want to stay light weight and still attach accessories, I'd take a hard look at the Midwest Industries Gen 2 SS rails.

The Samson is the only one I have experience with, and I can't speak highly enough about it. It's insanely light, the rail attachment feature works great, and it feels excellent in the hand.
