Apologies if this has been discussed previously, I'm on Tapatalk and the search function is limited.

Who makes a good dual mag clamp? All I see out there are Leapers, UTG, ProMag, CAA crap for airsofters.

I don't want to run a RediMag, but I do like the idea of having 56rds available with minimal down time.

Should I just make one with a thin piece of wood and some duct tape?

Any suggestions? Thanks guys

I use Lancer L5 AWM mags with Lancer clamp. Clamp is solid, 2 piece design. Even using only one piece, holds mags strong enough for competition use (but I would not recommend doing this this for duty/defense).

I forgot to mention that this clamp needs to fit USGI mags. I can't own Pmags or Battlemags or Lancers because the state I live in is homosexual.

FWIW, the new aluminum Redimag adds 5.4 oz. to the gun. The BFG Redimod, cut down to save weight but made from steel, weighed in at 7.0 oz. When you figure a coupler must way at least an ounce, maybe a bit more, the argument really starts to dwindle for the coupler. Bear in mind, a loaded magazine weighs ~1 lbs, so the real weight you're adding is there. Leave that off and the 5.4 oz. of the Redimag doesn't amount to much. If you're currently using a 30mm Aimpoint and you go to a micro, you're pretty much breaking even on weight.

I am extremely weight conscious when it comes to my guns, but my HD gun wears a Redimag.

The Lancer mag cinch should work for USGI mags Choate also makes a similar product with steel clamps http://www.midwayusa.com/product/795674/choate-magazine-coupler-ar-15-ruger-mini-14-steel-black

There's this (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=40225/Product/AR-15-M16-30-ROUND-MAGAZINE-COUPLER) at Brownelle's

Thier magcinch (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=0/k=magcinch/t=P/ksubmit=y/Products/All/search=magcinch) isn't so bad either.

One of the Army issue two mag pouches comes with a nice solid aluminum alloy coupler.
The pouch will hold 3 mags if none are coupled, otherwise just the two.
Might be another angle to persue.

If you run Pmags Magpul just came out with a new coupler for them.

I have no idea if they are good or not but knowing magpul they probably work well.

Edit* Sorry just saw your post that you can not use Pmags. Just ignore my post.

Rob,

I am currently running/ experimenting with a RediMod right now. I am curious about the aluminum one though. Besides the slight weight advantage how would you compare it to the RediMod? Things such as rigidity, how well it holds a mag in place and ease of operation of the mag release. I guess the difference is nil but I am curious. Thanks-

Apologies for the threadjack.

This one looks good. I like steel.

The aluminum Redimag is better in every way. In fact, I'm not sure if BFG will continue making the Redimod since it's more expensive and heavier.

When I first got mine I didn't read the instructions and failed to lube the catch, so it stuck. After emailing Boonie Packer, getting directed to the instructions, and correctly applying lube, it's been awesome.

Are you tracking on the downsides of magazine couplers?

1) The top round on the extra magazine tends to slide forward and prevents insertion of the magazine upon reload.

2) Dirt, grit, and grime accumulate in the exposed magazine.

I can see using it for home defense where you want to be able to just grab your rifle and go, I guess. But still, the redi-mag is a better solution.

Better choice.

Screw you guys! I had my mind made up and now I have to reconsider! :D

What turned me off about the RediMag was the price. But good kit doesn't come cheap, granted. Guess I was looking for a $20 fix for a non-existent but potential problem. I'll look up RediMag threads and re read.

Has anyone else experienced this? I believe you a0, just trying to get an idea of whether this happens with regularity, or as a fluke.

Yup. I've talked about those issues and more before in previous mag coupler threads.

Yes. It's not just a fluke. It's a design flaw. Less of a problem with 30 rds loaded due to the rds being held tighter but still a problem. It happens under recoil or even just riding around. I've had it happen on multiple occasions and it's one of the main reason I ditched them.

It was also a pain in the ass ditching a good loaded mag during a malfunction.
