so i ran across a few preban mags at a local shop and snatched them up. figured hell, someone in a ban state could use these. so the question is what are the legalities of shipping/selling these to someone in a ban state? other than kalifornia bc i know that you have to own them prior to sometime in 2000. also, what do prebans normally go for? i could keep them, but figured i dont need to since theres no restricitions here

A simple search of the site as well Google should help. In the end they are worth what someone is willing to pay.

I bought 50 new preban Colt 30s for $800 a few years past.
Hope that helps.

I'd give you $15 per unit

In some shops around here in NY I've seen some stamped ones for $35. Let's just say they sat on the shelf for awhile. I just picked up 12 prebans for $140. I bet if you listed them for $20 a piece someone would pick them up.

So you'd be satisfied with 5 or 10 round mags then?
And having purchased them at the same price as regular 30 round mags cost outside of ban states to boot when for a few dollars more you could have legal 20 and 30 round mags?

@ OP:
In NY they average around $14 to $20 (not including shipping) depending on condition and presence of date stamp.
Swap original black followers for new green ones and you can get toward the upper end of the scale.

More down state toward Albany - NYC and they can get well upward of $30, especially for primo externally date stamped or NIB versions.

They don't need a date stamp. The best ones say absolutely nothing anywhere on them.

I believe the ban here in ny was 1994 and they are certainly in high demand, I recently bought 10 or 12 prebans here on the forums for $15ea + ship :)

I'm going to start trading off all of my pmags for prebans!!!!

I've sold pre-ban mags on-line for $20-$25 to New Yawkas. I didn't want to go the FULL gouge, because I didn't want to end up sitting on them forever, and the buyers seemed grateful to find them at that price, so it was a win-win all-around.

Besides which, we border NY here, and kinda take pity on them in PA. ;)

They don't need a date stamp.
Understood.
All of mine are internally stamped or unstamped at all.

The best ones say absolutely nothing anywhere on them.
You just haven't been at the range with the 'right' LEO yet.
There are many out there who aren't old enough to even remember preban let alone know (or even care ) the differences, so to them an unmarked mag is a bust, not a point of proof.
To them big magazine = good bust, period.

Usual response unless there's another LEO there to correct them?
'Well we'll just let the courts figure it out won't we', or if you're lucky 'I'll do you a favor and just confiscate that to save you the hassle'

Around the part where I am its generally a non-issue, but the further toward the Manhattan penal colony or the Albany sheep farms you get the more the odds are stacked against you.

The best from a legal aspect are the externally stamped and cage coded ones as they leave zero question regarding thier pedigree.

The best in general for quality, regardless of stampings are the OKays

The OKays do have an obscure and slightly confusing internal date stamping system that was employed from sometime in the 70's up til 93 or early 94.
Any OKay w/internal stamp is preban, regardless of what the funny code looks like and those newer than that are externally date stamped with a month/year that.

I believe the ban here in ny was 1994
September 13, 1994, same day the federal ban went active.
Practically the same law, but no built in sunset date.

i did search this site... all that came up were FOR SALE threads...

....which tells you what they typically sell for pretty conclusively, particularly the ones stating "SPF" or "SOLD," wouldn't you say...?

RE: the first question...

Orange Search button, keywords "ban state," no filtering info: https://www.m4carbine.net/gtsearch.php?cx=003496919632624929056%3Adhiwgm0hbaa&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=ban+states&siteurl=www.m4carbine.net%2Ffaq.php&ref=www.m4carbine.net%2Fsearch.php&ss=2875j2094845j10

Pretty much a metric buttload of info about what one may or may not do in regard to sales between ban states and "free" states, including legal references to keep one out of trouble.

Getting to the point that every time we see some analogue of "I searched the site...," it seems to mean the same thing as when a person from the deep South says "Bless your heart..." What they're actually saying is "Go f**k yourself..."

They're search engines, not anti-matter. One may touch them without immolating the universe, and if one doesn't know HOW to conduct a Search in a manner that's likely to net results....ASK SOMEBODY FOR HELP.

Asking to learn to fish, instead of asking for fish, isn't the same as fessing up to kiddie porn or being caught talking out loud in a movie theater.
