Picked up a new Detroit Gun Works lower for $100. Living in Michigan I've seen our industry take a nose dive. Central Screw products made a smart choice to diversify and start producing Ar 15 components. Can't think of a better direction for a company to go.

The lower is very nice, the fit and finish is comparable to other lowers I've used such as the Mega Gator, Spike's and S&W. The finish is nice and even as is the machining. The role mark is subtle, however I would prefer a big D ala the Tigers.

Just got her together, have yet to test her out. I have just over 800 rounds of xm855,193,wolf and Tula set aside for testing. I'll try to get out this week and then I'll report back.

I just have an H and carbine buffer now. Should I also try a h2?

This is to be my defensive rifle, something my gf can shoot and train with also. I wanted to keep it light and simple.

Nice clean looking build. I would just run the H buffer. You should have no problems being a middy.

H buffer with 5.56 should be solid!

I remember when Detroit Gun Works first came out. I went to their website with my fingers crossed that the rollmark would be the old English D. No such luck.

Still bad ass none the less. When I checked, they didn't have pricing yet. If you don't mind me asking, what did the lower cost? Also, where in MI are they being stocked at?

Sweet stick.

Looks like they are out of stock for now. I know a dealer that may have a few left, I'll have to write him.

Well she more than passed the test.
h buffer worked perfect through about 300 rounds of 855 and 193. 100 round each of wolf and brown bear functioned with the h buffer. I ran the Tula last, I had a couple ftf's in the first couple mags. I switched to a carbine buffer and the tula functioned for about 160 more rounds with no problems.

The h buffer was very smooth but I really didn't notice much of a difference in felt recoil with the carbine buffer. It may be me but the 14.5 seems to shoot just as smooth as the 16 as far as muzzle rise and recoil impulse. I may stick with a carbine buffer, not sure yet.

I did a little 100 and 200 yard prone for accuracy. I don't have magnified optics, I was using irons with a 2 moa aimpoint on low. Also, I didn't have ideal shooting conditions, high weeds and sweat in my eye's plus my natural suckage. I didn't notice any difference between my 16 and 14.5 out to 200. I was keeping it mostly in a 6" circle with xm855 at 200. I was at 3-4 at 100 with the same ammo.

I was smoking the 10" steel at 100 yards running drills. The shorter barrel while not much shorter is noticeable while shooting around, over or under barricades. It's odd how much that little distance makes in the handling of the rifle. I am very happy with the feel of the rifle and how it "fits".

I intended to compare the speed on the 14.5 vs the 16 with various ammo. I ditched the chrono as it was hot as hell and no shade, I sweat through my shirt in 10 minutes. The heat destroyed my curiosity for the day.

As far as the lower goes, what is there to say? It does what it does and looks good doing it. If DGW keeps up the quality and keeps the prices low I see many new ARs and components being made in Michigan. Simple Green may go through a few changes but I believe she'll have the first spot in the gun safe for some time.

Glad to hear everything is as it should be. I really like that DGW lower... I was going to make the 40 min. drive to go pick one up but I've been hassling grant about a BCM lower and I would feel like an ass if I backed out ;) My new build is very similar to yours... light and functional, very nice!

... maybe I should go pick one up just in case.

Thanks, I like her, I seem to be super stupid sometime, like to keep things super simple. haha

If you can get a BCM lower I would jump on it. Every time I tried to get one they were gone before I heard they were available. ? I'll get one someday.

May as well pick up a spare though. You know you'll want to build another rifle and it's nice to have the registered part.

Steve, I'll give you one guess where these are stocked... Their retail is $99.98.
