The pictures aren't the best and it is hard to tell. It does look like an older one(the position of the screws look like mine), much like mine which I was given as a Christmas present from my parents back in 2001. Will pull mine out of the safe and compare some of the small details when I get the chance.

In the interest of full disclosure I'm no expert on Emerson. Having said that if it's a copy it looks like a pretty good one based on the pics.

I have to call that a fake. The price raises the brow. And there are some differences between mine and the one you linked. It may be changes made by Emerson over time, I dont know. I see extra screws mine doesnt have. Its hard to tell in your pic but it appears the handle is a bit different... missing the ridges? Missing some of the markings on the blade under the logo? Heres a pic of my Emerson Commander for comparison

Heres a link to the Commander on Emerson's website. Click Me (http://emersonknives.com/ekCommander_BTS.php) After looking at their pic... Im more convinced the ebay blade is a china made knock-off

Well, it arrived. I'm thinking I did good, nothing about this that seems like the $9 copy on DealExtreme. No blade play, even when the screw is loose enough to flip it open. I'm sending off some pics to Emerson to get some confirmation, but I'll post some pics here too in a little while.

Sorry, but I have to call that a fake. I've never seen an Emerson knife with that many screws on one side.

Better luck next time.

Look down at "Other Views or Variations" on the Emerson page.
All of those seem to have the three screw design.

Looks legit to me....the 99 commanders had the three screws in the middle of the scale unlike the newer ones. Do you have a pic of the back clip side? Check out Usualsuspect.net as well...there's a wealth of knowledge especially when it comes to Emerson Knives.

Didn't take a picture, but it appears correct (Phillips head screws.)

Looks legit. I've yet to see a fake Emerson dated 1999, and yes this is early vintage construction.

As a side note, you should check to see if this vintage Commander from 99 has the thicker liners and scales as they were highly sought after for a while and often brought higher prices then the thinner ones.

Loupav, if you clicked the very first link I posted, you would have seen a genuine Emerson with that many screws right there. Goes to show most folks aren't familiar with 1999 vintage Emersons! At least the uninformed opinions from people who aren't paying attention are easy to pick out.:D

You're right I'm not very familiar with 99' Emerson Folders.

Sounds like you're happy with your purchase, in that case rock on!
