Has anybody ever seen this video from tnoutdoors9 on YouTube?

He did an awesome job of putting together a setup that captures what it looks like from a first person POV through his EOTech, by using a HD digital camcorder with a 3" LCD display that he can actually use to aim with since the Sony HDR-CX560 obstructs his view through the EOTech. I sent him a message today to see if he can share pictures of how he set this up, but I wanted to see if anyone on the forum has created a setup like this to capture similar footage.

I know there are lots of mounts out there to attach Go-Pro's, Contours, etc. along the rail, but I want to essentially mimic and replicate tnoutdoors9 setup so I can capture the same view through my Aimpoint PRO. From what I can tell, he is the only one to successfully capture footage like this. Or he is the only one to openly share it from what I have seen so far.

Here is my setup and I know I'd have to remove the rear Magpul MBUS flip sight, but that is not a concern of mine. I would only use this setup at the range to capture some cool footage to show family and friends. I already have the HD digital camera and now just need to figure out the best means of mounting it to the flat top rail behind the Aimpoint or on the buffer tube.

If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. I am sure others on the forums would be interested in creating something like this for fun as well.

Thanks all,

Jason

The stuff I've seen on his channel is most likely acheived by simply trial and error....I've seen him rig some cameras pretty bootleg in a few of those videos, specifically one where he just duct tapes the camcorder to his stock. I'm not busting his balls at all, as I get lots of enjoyment outta doing the same thing. It's just that even when you have a proper mount solution, recoil, and a million other things can screw your end game up thus requiring continual refinement in your approach and setup.

I don't own any eotechs.....but I did something I termed as "Aimpoint Vision" that might help give you ideas.

I just used a Larue LT724 base to play around with....along with risers, super glue, and a ton of patience.

Trident82 - your footage definitely turned out like I have in mind, great job!

I was surprised watching the video and seeing how well it handled the moderate recoil of the 5.56 round, especially with such a narrow mounting setup to the LaRue mount.

How did you actually mount the camera to the mount?

What camera is that?

Thanks!

Jason

Slightly related... If the whole POV thing doesnt work out for you..

I use a bicycle handlebar mount with some rubber tubing inside it to mount my point and shoot to my old 6PLED which is in turn mounted in a VLTOR mount. This puts it far out at the end of the gun, not really what youre looking for, but still helps in identifying training issues. For example, I never noticed that I magwell gripped and partially covered the ejection port when shooting weak side rollover prone until I recorded myself from the front of the gun.

Anyhow. If youd like to mount a point and shoot out front and take a look at yourself while shooting, look into bike mounts. Ive had a few issues with my camera going out of focus due to recoil, but its better than nothing. Alternatively, look into head/helmet mounts.

I've wondered if you could use one of those 90* corner cube optics. Mount the camera on the left side while you continue to look straight through it. At $279 it's too much $ for me to try though.

At one time in my ghetto rigging days, I took the approach of using cheap sacrificial stuff for stuff like this, and by extension used various cheap cameras....the one in the pics and vid was a Canon powershot SD1300. if I were to revisit this, I'd have a much different setup, all this stuff was done right when I was exploring it initially. I just might now that I have real deal 1080p camcorders with wide angle lens.

Again since the method was sacrificial in nature....I used make shift risers, and gorilla glue.

Screwing around with it all is half the fun imho, and the more creative you get, the richer reward you'll often times receive DIYing...or ghetto rigging as I say:D

Same mount/cam just positioned differently on the rifle...

Here is the option that I might go with. It looks like it would work out just perfect.

Maybe for airgun, but for firearm I think it will work for first shot only.

I've been trying to find a good way to mount a GoPro to a picatinney rail. I've tried the Strikemarks but found them unsatisfactory (the camera rotates back in the mount from recoil, and there's a weird thrumming from vibration of the mount with each shot).

I used an HD 30fps keyfob camera and the front end of a chopped carry handle and mounted it like a rear BUIS. When I first tested it for height and operation I just used rubber bands to hold the fob to the handle. I later epoxied it. It worked well, good height placement, front of carry handle attaches easily and the optic was unobtrusive. I just don't shoot much video from that view however. The mount and camera can be briefly seen in the RB1 Carbine Standards video where I was testing it out. The video is linked to the 4:50 mark where the camera and mount can be seen with the rubber bands.

it's right above the row of pics with the camera.
"I rigged up the mount below with my Flip Mino camera, using a VIO 6" flex mount and the head from a Ultra Clamp mount for positioning the camera. The flex mount is clamped in a LaRue Tactical MK31 pen flare QD mount. I haven't found anything else that works. I used this mount in my SCAR video, where the camera is mounted to the side rail and pointed at me in the latter part of the video. "

i've linked to the individual parts in the article. anyways, it didn't work as well as i thought it would with a camera, but it may also have been my camera.
