dang, for sure they are sticking to their guns. Wonder if the market will now be flooded with M9's? Also if Colt is supplying 12K of 200K who is the other supplier?

Colt Defense, based in Hartford, Conn., will supply as many as 12,000 of the 200,000 U.S. Marines with semi-automatic, tan-colored M45 Close Quarter Battle Pistols, and they will include spare parts and logistical support. The gun has long been the weapon of choice for special operations agents, thanks to its reliability and the stopping power of its massive bullets.

The article says Colt will supply 12,000 of the 200,000 US Marines with this pistol.
Not that 200,000 will be ordered.

But that means each gun is $1875 (including parts support ect....)

Well see if anyone else reports this.

EDIT:
This article says the initial order is for 4,036 pistols. And the contract is for up to 12,000 Pistols.

I'm sure a lot of that money is going to go to train armorers to service the pistols. I just have a hard time accepting that a 1911 is the best .45 platform for military service in 2012. That being said, I am sure that part of the decision making process was to stimulate contract work to an American manufacturer.

I have no doubt that the 1911 is a good platform and the .45 auto is a round with lots of potential. But in FMJ form, I'm not really sure the sacrifice in magazine capacity is worth a little more knock-down power (whatever that is).
