3 gen 6904? Or 6906? I really don't know anything about these pistols, please talk me into or out of them.

04 is blued with alloy frame, 06 is stainless with alloy frame.

Very good guns and at one point at the top of the food chain for the niche that the Glock 19 owns.

Reliable, easy to work on if need be, can be run off of 59 series magazines.

The 5906 was my first semiautomatic. An officer on my shift had a 6904. Both were solid guns. I never did care for the location of the safety/decocker. I prefer to use the safety if a weapon has one, but many people have carried these weapons off safe.

I have the 5946. Very durable gun. The 69XX is a compact version of the 59XX.

The onlt thing that kinda bothers me about them is the mag disconnect. If you drop the mag you cant shoot the gun. I see the benefit of having one Im just not a huge fan of it. Most 3rd gen Smiths will have this feature. Those that dont will have it written on the side "caution capable of firing with magazine removed" (or if it was a Bubba job)

Yes, they shared several traits with the G19, mostly their size efficiency, and were a great compromise size in their time.

They were very popular LE trade-ins, and usually available for $200-$300. The bunches I saw of them all seemed to come out of Iowa and Nebraska.

New here, I have a 6906 for about 1-2 years. Love the gun, quickest trigger reset of life! If you want to see a bit more I have a fieldstrip video on youtube ( pardon the mistakes in the vid) I have a hogue grip on it and love it since I have big hands. the gun is very concealable and has some bite when you shoot. But overall I would never get rid of it!

Compared to most here I'm very new and certainly no expert. A year ago I had every intention of making the DAO version of these, the 6946, my EDC. I've since switched to a G19 due to the higher capacity in practically the same size package and parts availability. Parts for 3rd gens can still be had but from what I've read at the S&W forum it's getting harder. Sights availability is limited too.

I'm not knocking these pistols - I really like mine, especially the single stack version - just giving my $.02 on why I switched.

Ive been picking up a few here and there when i see a price too good to pass up. The 45acp and 10mm usually command top dollar, LEO trade or not (sometimes more for LEO).

I'm beginning to thinh the 6906 may be the finest ccw pistol ever made. It's hard to beat. Good capacity in a small package. I almost took a drink of the Glock koolaid and was thinking about buying a G19. Then I came to my senses and realized I have something just as good in my 6906.

There are quite a few used 6904 on the various auction sites for approx 250 dollars. I wonder if they are foreign leo trades.
