I have been checking out manufacturers of free float handguards and I have come up with Midwest Industries Gen2 2 Piece Free Float Carbine and Rifle Handguards. Right now I have just the stock round handguards on both AR's. After doing a search it was hard to find(at least conclusively) other manufacturers of this paticular kind of set up.

What I'm looking for is this:
1. No removal of gas block/front site or barrel.

2. Handguards come in carbine and rifle length.

3. 2 piece set up of course.

As always, thanks for the help!

DD Omega, Centurion C4 and Troy MRF are the first ones that come to mind for me.
I've used all three of these and prefer the Omega for the profile, but the Centurion seems to the preferred rail for this setup at the time because of its mounting system.

Depending on how much you're looking at spending the Troy and MI are going to be the more inexpensive options of those.
Although for the price the MI Gen2 seems superior to the Troy on account of the lighter weight and built in QD sockets.

Centurion C4 (http://www.centurionarms.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=123&Itemid=154)
Troy MRF (http://store.troyind.com/MRF_BattleRails_s/2.htm)

I use Daniel Defense on most of my ar rifles. The omega 2 piece is an easy solution.
I have used MI in the past with mixed results. For the most part good rails, but DD is a better "feel" for me to free float.

What are you trying to do with your rifle? What hand guards do you have experience with?

UTG

I don't recommend UTG because they are ridiculously wide and cumbersome. Hence why I have a carbine UTG rail no longer in use.

Just looking for more space for BUIS and optics mounting, flashlight mounting, and VFG. The only handguard rail system I have experience with is a Ruger SR-556, any rail system has to be lighter than that beast.

Then I will stick with my previous post. Lots of good luck with DD and Troy, I don't see any reason to switch.

Also looking at different carbon fiber tubes. Here I go again...

Centurion C4. I'm running the Centurion cutout on my duty carry LE6920. No problems so far at about 1K rounds. All through a 2 day class. Not that many rounds but it's a start....

I do not expect any issues as it is.

Daniel Defense Omega! I didn't want to spend the money at first, but ended up buying the Omega in the long run. Do yourself a favor and just buy it first. If it's too expensive, there's always used ones on the equipment exchange.

Here's a grainy shot of an Omega on my .50 beowulf. Couldn't use a one piece rail because the muzzle break is permenantly attached.

Without a doubt. Quality construction and easy installation.

I've recently installed other gen2 MI products - the SS and drop-in quadrail - and both were very well made and light. I would be confident buying the gen2 drop-in free float, and in fact I may be getting one soon.

No experience with Centurion. DD definitely makes great stuff, but I can't see a visible quality difference between my DD Omega-X and the gen2 MI products I've tried. Same with Troy, except Troy products look comparatively heavy now.

I really thought that the Midwest Industries handguard would be slightly bashed, or that it was terribly subpar. From what it looks like, everyone has a decent opinion of them and just like a different brand a little more. Or that they have the MI and like it a whole lot. Since I'm outfitting two AR's I think I might go with MI. Thanks for the help though, everyone helped me make up my mind and maybe have some more options if I ever want to go in a different direction with another build.

I put a set of the 10" MI Gen2 Two Piece Handguards on my S&W Sport. They were very easy to put on and when tightened down there is NO movement what so ever. They are very well made and have built in limited movement QD swivel ports. They are also a lot more affordable that some of the other brands. I really like mine!

The Vltor CASV Handguards require no removal of the slip ring, spring, or FSB to install.
