View Full Version : Aimpoint M2 in a P.A. 30mm cantilever mount?

I have an aimpoint m2 mounted in the standard aimpoint qrp mount, which tends to loosen after a while.

Does anybody have any experience with the primary arms 30mm cantilever mount on a rifle that's been run hard (i.e. classes, several thousand rounds/year)? Part of me says don't put a $500 optic in a $25 dollar mount, but I have to ask...

Is there legitimate concern that a mount that cheap would not stay tight, or would it be GTG due to the simplicity of the design?

I'm not looking for QD capability, and I like how it puts the optic further out, but I'm also not looking to spend over $200 on the KAC model.

I've searched all over to see if this has been covered before, with no luck.

Thanks

I think I'll take the silence as, "don't buy that junk".

There is a middle ground between $25 and $200 mounts...specifically ADM and Larue.

What loosens? A little blue loctite might solve your problem.

Thanks for the replies, gents. Think I'll go w/ ADM, eventually. Going to shoot the snot out of my rifle with my irons for now.

The big knob that tightens the mount onto the rail gets loose after a while.

Mounts that use a ratcheting tension knob may work just fine, though they tend to be less forgiving of variations in whatever rail they're mounted to.

Not to dissuade from going to a different mount, but it'd be worthwhile to try using tin-foil to shim the rails and give the mount something to bite into before buying a new mount.

If going with a different mount, that PA thing is suitable for a .22LR plinker or dedicated upper for your REAL gun...not viable where anything from KAC was included as a possible option.....thing might as well be made of papier mache.

LaRue has the VFZ option on many of its mounts; no QD capability. The LT150, for example, shows as $162 on their site, with the VFZ option being $25 less.

Thanks for the comments! I didn't know LaRue offered that option. Is that recent?

Call it two years: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=59506

Gyah, you stated cantilever...! VFZ's available on the LT129, $153 per their site: http://www.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-cantilever-compm2-lt-129

That's not to take away from AD mounts, either. Both them and LT are excellent.

It wasn't a requirement, but I like that cantilever allows the option of putting the sight a few inches further out.

I have to admit, BCM's $105 price tag for the AD-68 is very appealing.
