View Full Version : .233 reloads...........
Are there any problems using reloads without cannelure on the bullets? I'm
aware of the need for ammo with cannelure for the auto cycling action of the AR. I'm just wanting to know if you can use the uncannelured rounds without any problems in my AR15.........
Yes. Just lightly taper crimp or use a Lee FCD.
I only crimp 55-62 grain reloads. I don't crimp SMK 69 and 77 grain projectiles.
For a number of years I loaded Hornady 60 gr. SP bullets w/o cannelures for two AR's and never had any problems.
Will factory stuff like the 55gr winchester BST's I just bought be ok without the crimp/ect.?

Good general rulle...if it has a cannelure, apply a taper crimp especially for hard use ammo. If you are using match bullets like the Sierra Match Kings and you want the ultimate in accuaracy, don't crimp, but you may want to load one at a time with the bulluet laying on top of the Mag. follower (versus stripping it from the Mag.) so as not to get any setback from the bullet hitting the feed ramp.
