Has anyone used the lancer cf handguards? I'm getting ready to purchase a colt 6720 and was thinking about what rail/handguard I wanted to use and I saw them at my LGS and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them

I have... 13" I think it is... On a rifle I'm writing an article about. What attracts you to it, and what would you like to know?

combo of looks but mostly its lightweight and i figured it wont get quite as hot as metal and it also looked like it would just feel really good in ones hand. I was just curious as to what anybodys experience with it was what are the pros and cons etc.

It gets hotter than you think it would.

It's heavier than you think it is.

The slickness is harder to hold on to than other tubes with texture.

I was nervous the whole time that I would crack it or break it.

I would still like to run an optical thermometer on it to see if it gets as hot as other tubes.

So does it have any advantages you think or just go with something like a DD omega rail?

I was interested in one until I found out that the piece that the carbon fiber attaches to has to be locticted in place. The old vtac tube is the same way and once its on there it's there for good more or less. Kinda screws you if you want to try something else later.

Let me know what you think of it after you install and shoot with it

i deviated from the install instructions abit. I went with the way Carbon Arms/Firebird do their own tubes, I emailed Scott V. from Lancer and he said it was an acceptable method. My buddy has a lathe and we cut the back of the receiver extension to time it to the receiver. will post visuals later

Interesting cant wait to see how it looks. When do you plan on shooting with it?

Did you mean to say you machined the back of the outer nut that threads onto the upper receiver?

yes, its hand tight to what we think is 10-15 ft-lbs

What other carbon fiber hand guards have people had good luck with?

While I don't think this is a very good rail system, I don't think the fact that it uses loctite should be held against it. The KAC URX uses loctite and it's a solid system.

That being said, there are much better systems for the money than the PRI offerings.

Beating one up on my 3Gun rifle without issue. I like the fact that it is smooth and dont find it slick or slippery. Nice for a hunting set up as well.

No issues with the loc tighted barrel nut or heat when run hard.

Would not be my first choice on a SHTF rifle.

So is the pri a better choice?

got it installed. I recommend cutting the back if the receiver extension nut(look up firebird's handguard install PDF) in a lathe. Make sure your dust cover pin does not protrude past the front if the upper receiver, file it or whatever. It should line up hand right at about 15 ft-lbs. I still used loctite so it wouldn't move but ymmv. if i didn't have access to a lathe, I would've just used loctite.

I feel that clocking the extension so it has tension/torque against the upper solidifies the tube. Its the only FF tube I've messed with so I really can't compare. An honest 1mm or less of deflection at the end of the tube but it's really solid.

it got warm but not hot after a mag dump

EDIT: barrel is deflecting not the HG
