I have to conclude that the action was not threaded true at the factory. Then the barreled action was bent "straight" before shipping. I will keep everyone posted as to how Savage handles this situation. I think the F-class rifles are a great value and don't mean to rip on Savage. If they did let a crooked action leave the plant, disguising it by bending the action/barrel assembly I will be greatly disappointed.

I remember seeing a video somewhere years ago where they toured the savage factory.
In that video, they showed the skilled operator who puts the barrel in a big hand operated press and bends the barrel to straight while looking down the barrel and rotating it in the press.

Does anyone else remember that video?
I think it was by one of the big mainstream gun magazines.

At 2:20 we see them chambering in a drill press.

Are you talking about this;

"Obviously, a gun cannot shoot straight if the barrel is not straight. The technique for straightening a barrel has changed little over the years. The tested looks through the barrel at a scribed line seeing what was described in the 1850’s as “very resplendent congeries of concentric rings, forming a spectacle of very dazzling brilliancy.” - Springfield Armory Historic Site

Yep.
It was one of those straighteners.
There is actually a portion of a second of a shot of the guys eyeball looking through the barrel as he bent it in one of the videos I ran into today, but I could not find the long form video where you actually watch the guy make repeated bends on the same barrel to get it straight...

FN has this barrel straightening thing for their M16 line. I nearly lost my lunch when I first saw it. If a barrel doesn't pass straightness guage, the give it a BOING BOING on this medieval corntraption to straighten it out. :eek:

For them being so "f'ed" they sure do shoot well.

Hey Ring, can you tell me what distance to zero my rifle? I'm new to the long range game and I don't want to mess anything up. I want to shoot at 1000yds on monday. It's a 375 cheytac with a Nikon fixed 4x and leupold rings, if that helps.

Boy I can tell you are going to be giving all kinds of advice.

It wouldn't bother me, except I know that the people who don't know any better might listen.
