View Full Version : Adding AFG2 to MOE handguard

What is the shortest rail section (http://store.magpul.com/prod_detail_list/104) I can get away with to mount an AFG to my carbine-length MOE handguard?

Tried searching the forum (http://goo.gl/Guam4) but turned up nil.

Im in San Diego and just ordered the Magpul L5 to mount my AFG1. Amazon for about 6 or 7 bucks. I guess it has 11 rails but post pics when it gets here. Not sure if it will be more stable than a shorter rail but we'll see.

I'm curious too. Will the AFG fit the DD v7 rail? I'm looking at that as an option to the verticle grip.

My AFG2 interfaces with the rail using one screw. I may be wrong, but it seems that you would only need two "teeth" to make it work.

I agree. It may look a little funny but it would work.

I'm almost posative there was a paper with installation instructions that came in the box of my AFG2 that said it required a minimum of x inches of rail to grab onto.

I can't remember, but if you have your original box and papers still, you might check that.

Magpul recommends a minimum of 3 inches of rail.

The 11 slot is 4.9 inches.

The 9 slot is 4.1.

The 7 slot is 3.3.

So the answer is that you need at least the 7 slot.

P.S. In case you're wondering, the 5 slot is only 2.5 inches.

They both work fine as long as you put the rail piece on and you're using it correctly. I've seen an awful lot of AFGs placed all the way back towards the magwell. Not how it was intended to be used.

I use an AFG 2. Have been for over a year. I think the "testing" phase for me is over and I'm still not 100% sold on it. Gonna switch to the new handstop magpul designed for the MOE and "test" that for a while. We'll see how it works out.
