Hey guys,

I am sorry if this question has already been answered, but for some reason I cant get the search option on this forum to work for me.

I picked up a Glock 19 Gen 4 not too long ago and it has been running great so far.

I am looking to pick up another Glock, and I am considering a Glock 23. I know that there have been alot of reported issues with the Generation 3 and 4 Glock 19s. Do the Glock 23s suffer from the same problems? Is there any reason NOT to go with the Glock 23?

The reasons I am looking at the Glock 23 is because I already own several 9mm and 45 caliber platforms. I would like to at least give the .40 cal platform a chance. If I do not like it, I am planning on buying a conversion barrel to 9mm for the 23. Also, I have a Smith and Wesson M&P, but I can honestly say I like the Glock platform a little more at this point.

My intended use is basic range work, possibly local pistol competitions, and possibly concealed carry depending on how fast I can become with the .40 cal.

Thank you for any help and information you can provide!

My off duty is a G4 G23. I've been very happy with it. The .40 caliber Gen4 Glocks have not had the number of issues the 9mm Gen4's have had (to my knowledge mind you). The recoil is much softer than the Gen3 .40s as well. I find it very similar to shooting +p 9mm from a Gen3 Glock 19. While I wouldn't get into .40 caliber just because (if you don't use it for work, or have a specific application then I'd just stick with 9mm and .45), the Gen4 Glocks are a great .40 caliber platform.

I got my gen four g23 when they first came out and it's been great, no issues.

My Gen 4 G23 has been trouble-free since October 2010. I did have a few BTFs in my first 100 rounds, but that hasn't happened since.

My gen 4 23 Sn# SBSXXX has consistently ejected brass back into my face. While i have had no other malfunctions the erratic ejection has caused me concern and trying different ejectors (28926 and unmarked) so far has not resolved the problem.

My father had the slide lock button fall out of his (the button you hold down to let the slide move forward). The good thing is the spring didn't break with it. If the spring broke the whole plastic pistol grip would've needed to be replaced. It was a quick 5 dollar fix from a gunsmith and it's as good as new.

He also had a failed to eject when he tried firing after removing the magazine. I'm not sure if that's normal though, I usually don't experiment with stuff like that.

I have a Gen 4 Glock 22 and I prefer the meatier feel of mine. I'm not planning on conceal carrying it so I got the full sized version. Mine has been running fine.

Thanks for all of the information! Looks like I may be picking one up sometime soon.

I've been thinking about picking up a Gen4 G23 because I've been completely impressed with my Gen4 G22. It's fast becoming my favorite Glock but just a little too big for me to carry so a G23 might be perfect.

Now seeing enough gen4 40s that I would not hesitate to buy one.

I love my Gen 4 G22. I forget if the round count is 400 or 500 rounds, but it has launched exactly one empty back in my face during that time. I attribute that to a weak round since I was shooting cheap ammo.

In some ways I like the Gen4 G22 better than the Gen3 G17 (but not really). :D

It would seem the Glock mother ship has sussed the Gen4's. I will say, however, the Gen4 trigger isn't as clean nor as light as the Gen3 guns.

I remedied that with Ghost, Inc. Rocket and Gen3 trigger bar. FWIW.
