I can get an used HK USP .45 with 2 mags for 625.

The USP is the DAO model and has slight holster wear.

The price is what I'm wondering about. Which I'm sure I can talk the guy down on.

So is this a good deal?

Not a bad deal. Anything below 600 would be a great deal, if they pay for the dros that's even better.

I'm brand new to handguns. I'm just getting them to run courses. What do you mean dros?

the fee you have to pay at the dealer to get the gun transferred in your name.

What's do you feel is a reasonable price for this. My rifle guy is 25.

I wonder how much it will cost you to convert it to something anything besides DAO. HK DA pulls suck and having to contend with it every shot is not my idea of fun.

Well I'm planning to send it to Gray Gun for trigger job and re finish since they offer factory re blue. If I get this. But I've been told a lot people prefer DAO. Or is that different from the Lem trigger?

DAO is different from LEM, LEM is a lighter pull. Be sure to factor cost of changing trigger operation in your evaluation. I wouldn't go over $600 personally. I wouldn't bother with refinishing either.

Alright so what do you guys recommend? Should I buy if I can get it for 600 or lower? Then just get a different trigger. You think it would still be worth it?

It depends on what you want. The USP 45 is a good gun but quite large. .45 ammo isn't the cheapest and HK parts/mags aren't cheap either. If the gun fits you and you are prepared to pay the money for a HK/.45 then go for it. You mentioned you are just getting it to run in classes, a 9mm Glock or M&P might be a better choice for that use.

G19.

If you're not set on .45ACP.

Roll a G19. You can score 'em used for $329. A new one is something like $450.

Or a Walther PPQ will run you like $450-500.

If you're set on .45ACP. Smith M&P Midsize. Should be like $600.

The USP 45 is a heavy blocky beast. Pass.

However, in .45 I'd prefer an HK45C, but you seem intent on a lower priced gun. That's okay too. :)

It will be to purely own a hk and a .45. I was considering it for classes but was convinced on a mp9 after the usp I was looking at fell through. Then my dealer called me with this deal so I put a down payment to hold it.
