A friend has a 7.5" upper for sale and i was thinking of making my new M&P into a SBR he told me that anything under 10" does not function it will have constant failure to feeds and what not. Im not worried about ballistics as it will be just a fun gun? if there are issues what fixes them?

Running the proper buffer generally 'fixes' them.

The problem aside from ballistics isn't just "what fixes" them. On many cases they cannot be readily fixed because of a variety of conditions such as port size, dwell time, ammo, buffers, etc....

Personally you are much better off with a 10.5" than a 7.5.
