Heads up...

The NV legislature's Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice (http://leg.state.nv.us/Interim/76th2011/Committee/StatCom/AdminJustice/index.cfm?ID=30) will be meeting on 08-28-2012.

Part of the agenda for that meeting will be discussion on whether or not to implement a state level "assault weapon" ban.
Information will only be presented by NV law enforcement (most likely LVMPD), CA anti-gun groups and the NRA.
There will be no public comment for this topic.

The current chairman of the commission is anti-gun, he's the person who prevented "campus carry" for CCW permit holders and opposed the various "castle doctrine" bills from last session.

The Advisory Commission on the Administration of Justice will be meeting in...
Room 3137 of the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St., Carson City, NV.
Videoconferenced to Room 4412 of the Grant Sawyer State Office Building, 555 E. Washington Ave., Las Vegas, NV.

My brother is moving to NV this week.
Better give him the heads up to start barking at his representatives right way.

Sorry for the late update.

Apporoximately 100 people showed up to the meeting to oppose the assault weapon ban agenda.
After the chairman of the committee (Assemblyman William Horne) addressed the crowd, a commission member brought up a point of order that the committee had no legal authority to take action on this issue (only the NV legislature has the authority to decide). A vote was then called for and the committee voted 8-5 to removed the assault weapon ban from the committee's agenda.

Assemblyman William Horne expressed his displeasure and stated that an assault weapons ban needed to be enacted due to the recent mass shootings in CO and WI.

Assemblyman William Horne is currently up for re-election in district 34 (Las Vegas). Grassroots efforts are being mobilized to ensure he does not get re-elected due to his efforts to pass a NV assault weapons ban, his role in preventing valid carry permit holders from carrying on school/university property and his opposition to the passage of a "castle doctrine/stand your ground" law.

Hopefully he does not get re-elected. Seems he would be great as a California politician........
