Which would you choose, and why? Both are nearly identical in price. Ive done a fair amount of reading on them, obviously both are GTG for duty. Cant seem to find as much info on the Colt.

I like the mono rail on the Colt.... but I also like the longer rail on the DD.
Cant find the weight on the DD... Colt is 6.75 lbs??

Both are quite nice. Keep in mind the Colt has flip up sights and the Mk18 has none. Personally, I like the rail of the the MK18 better, and DD often edges out Colt a little in the fit and finish.

I'd probably take an LMT MRP 10.5" over either of those. It's going to cost you more, but you get the SOPMOD stock, removeable BUIS, and the ability to quick-change barrels (300 AAC Blackout, anyone?). The LMT just feels perfect when I pick it up. The Mk18 feels nearly as good, but lighter (which is good), and I'd change the grip.

I looked at both and picked the Daniel Defense. Part of it is I'm a GA native, and I like supporting the local business. Part of it is I like the looks of the MK18. I'm also not a huge Colt fan. I acknowledge their quality, but don't care for their politics. DD has been consumer friendly from the get-go.

Sopmod stock is easy enough to swap out if that's what you want.

Nice light mount, ASH556. I just ordered another one of those right now for one of my SBRs. I love those mounts.

Thanks man, it's been really solid for the 2 years I've been running it. Nice and tight/close to the gun too!

When I pictured how I wanted a MK18 setup, this is exactly what I had envisioned (albeit adding a VFG). Thanks for posting that, great looking gun

Good points. Fit and finish is great, but functionality and weight are honestly my main conerns. Not that i'd expect any functionality issues with any of them! Agreed the MK18 factory grip would need to go. The MRP is a viable option, but i'm not sure I can justify the extra expense. Weight is a big factor for me, and you mentioned the MRP feels heavier. If anyone has the weights for these 3 rifles that would be awesome.

What made you choose the 6945 over other similar options? Hope it doesnt take that long, I was told by a manufactuer that the weight is only 8-12 weeks.

The wait usually comes from waiting for ATF paperwork, not from the mfr.

I had been out of the gun world for about 15 years and and just decided to get back in it. I wanted a colt SBR and started researching.
Honestly, I didn't know much about the others. I kept my search primarily to Colt, because that was about the limit of my experience.

The wait is what it is. I originally ordered the gun in Dec of 2011. There was a mix up with the distributor and the order was resubmitted in April of 2012. The form 3 took forever and the gun finally arrived at my shop on the 7th of August. I picked up the papers yesterday from the CLEO and sent them to the ATF. The wait continues.

The 8-12 weeks is most likely the Form 3 transfer.
Form 1 and 4's are taking 6 months or longer..

I'm hoping late Dec for my last Form 1...

In 8 months... depending on the election... guns may be banned, and prayer rugs will be issued in their place. :fie:

Hmmm, you think if I engrave "Salam Aleikum" on my dust cover they'll let me keep it?

Paying that much and NOT having it until next year is gonna drive me crazy (esp since this is a work gun and I could use it)

It will all be worth it. Sometime next year we'll be able to hang with the cool kids!!!

Like I said earlier, I ordered the Colt in Dec. of 2011. I'm looking at Feb. 2013 to bring it home. It gives you plenty of time to buy all your accesories and ammo. I ordered a YHM can for it that will be here about Nov. My first NFA item and I won't have anything to shoot through it until next Feb. I didn't plan very well!!!!!

I'm hoping to figure out to post pictures before the gun gets home. I've got six months to educate myself. I just hope that's enough time!:fie:

I will tell you that it took 6 months from the date I sent my check to the ATF to get my first stamp. Even though I was gone for a long time, after the 3rd month the wait gets harder. Now I have to wait for one more to come in in November.

Did the same thing about 2 weeks ago, only for a MK18:p

Did 2 Form 4's. One for the MK18 and one for a AAC 762SDN6. I'm hoping for a Christmas present, but I'm prepared for a President's Day gift

There was a little mix up with the distributor that led to the delay. But they made up for it. Then the form 3 took about 12 weeks. It's been a rough process, but very interesting. I just keep telling myself how much fun this is going to be.

Congrats and good luck on the Christmas present! Im hoping for the best valentines day present ever!

On a happier note than all this waiting, I should be able to shoot mine around October when the shop opens their range.

It arrived today at my dealer :D I know this thread is now a few months old but I couldn't resist posting pics of my choice. This is actually my first AR15 that I have purchased (inherited one, issued another)

Congrats Big! It looks great. It was a great day for both of us. I shot the Colt for the first time yesterday. The stamp for the can came in last week, 2 weeks shy of 6 months. About 3 more months to go on the Colt.

I got to have some visitation time with mine as well recently. I definitely DON'T regret my choice. Just a couple more months to go.........

BTW that Colt of yours looks sweet.

Those are nice Tacteam. Just curious, why does one have a bayonet lug?

I had never seen one with the lug. Mine doesn't have one, probably just when they were produced.

Two of them, that's just showing off. I'm jealous!

That could be, I purchased them when they were first released. Also have a real Colt MK18 upper on a registered lower. ;)http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff176/cflowner/DSC_0021-2.jpg
