Need help gents, to my fellow LEOs how many of your agency's are actually doing quals using duty ammo. Or are you shooting FMJs on the range then issuing duty amo for work.

When I was in some 7-8 years ago, it was FMJ's, unless you come from duty, then the first round was what was chambered.

BTW: Are they still doing that silly static qualification course where the 25 yard part is still behind "cover"? What a damn joke.

Duty ammo, exclusively; rifle, shotgun, and handgun.

I qualify my guys with duty ammo. It is a 60 round course and they use up the 46 rounds they have from the street and the last 14 come from a new box. If they fail the qual then I go to FMJ.
All drills are done with FMJ. I buy 3 cases of FMJ to every 1 case of duty ammo.

Shotgun ammo is the same for duty and qual and rifle ammo is XM193 for drills and qual and we are in limbo with our rifle duty ammo right now.

We use quals to use up old duty ammo. Training is with FMJ's.

Duty ammo is shot up in a qual or training event, and new issued at the conclusion. Training ammo of some sort is shot otherwise. Applies to handgun and rifle.

Handgun: duty ammo for qualification, FMJ for training/drills
Carbine: Same, though for SWAT we use duty carbine ammo for training, too, unless its a high round count day.

We qual with our duty ammo every other year or so and get new stuff. The off years we use FMJ. All training is done with FMJ.

Semi-annual quals with the 1st run using your duty ammo. Only the 1st run is considered for marksmanship awards. After the 1st run, two more runs with FMJ, then issued fresh duty ammo.

We do our second qual with duty ammo, first qual is with range ammo

We qual with duty ammo once a year. All other shoots are with fmj. We shoot 6x year.
