View Full Version : cat tail or switchview for scopes, 2 for 20$..... check this out
repost from snipers hide... GREAT find...
i just put one on my 1x4 pst.. F'n GREAT!....
For a cat tail or switchview, try a "Breakaway Coaster". 2 for $17.79

NC1 "Universal" Black Coaster Clips from Breakaway. They're used to secure a reel to a rod. Order them here (http://www.breakawayusa.com/products/accessories/coasters/). I use one on my Tac30 1-4x and MTAC 3.5-10x. Less than $20 for the pair (not sure if they're still sold as pairs).
The knob part turns to tighten them down. Once tight, use a sharp razor to cut the excess off.
Here's a (lousy) pic of the one on my 1-4x. You can see the knob right above the Burris logo on the ocular:

That is a great idea. How does it look like it is going to hold up?
looks fine.. honestly, i think it can take more abuse then the 60 to 80$ aluminum ones.. the bands are near a thick as flex cuffs, and probably just as strong..
i just mounted the 2nd one on my razor... i have a carbine class this sat, and a mile shoot this weekend to play with them more at..
Damn, that is an awesome idea. I liked the idea of the cat tails but they were always WAY too long in my opinion, this looks just right.
Fantastic! Thanks for posting-

Just ordered the breakaway coaster for my VX-R. For $23 I'll give it a whirl. Just needs to be effective!
Thanks for the tip!
Awesome idea. But is it tight / secure enough since the interior is slick?

Got mine yesterday. You still get 2 in the package. I installed and it seems pretty tight but that depends on how hard you'll be banging in it.
I'll find out next 3 gun match.
Again ~thanks to to OP for the info!

This is so many ways of awesome. Be sure and let us know how your next match turns out.
How are these holding up over time?
have 1 on my m4 and my precision gun.. had it since i started this thread, used all summer no issues, going great..
I would put a dab of superglue on the threads so it doesn't back off.

u could, but i havent had and issues like that..
Thanks for this, I have a very hard to adjust scope and I think this may solve the problem. Can't even find one of the $100 ones for it, I like $20 way more anyway.

This is one of those times you should post nothing and be thought a fool instead of making a useless non-productive post thus showing us how foolish you are.
Let that be a warning!
Easy now...
Just making a light hearted comment... not need for personal attacks.
Sweet...I just ordered them. I like how 1) they are 20$ for 2. 2) They seem almost lower profile/less likely to catch than most actual cat tails.

That's what caught my eye... except I think it stands a little on the tall side... taller than the turrets... but I suppose if you're after speed, that'd be a good thing.
Interesting idea and saves about $50. I wonder if there is any slippage under hard use.

Not that I have ever seen. I'm running the on 2 guns and a buddy has them on 3...
Going strong on my mk4 and Leatherwood CMR.
Thank you for sharing this.
Very interesting idea! Thanks for the tip!
I've got one of these now and very happy to have it. It's on a 2-7 Leupold Rifleman that was very hard to adjust. I couldn't do it without getting off the firing position.
This is a serious bargain.

Sweet. Exactly what I need for the 1-6.5x Bushnell I am getting sent to me to test/review. I didn't want to have to buy a $70 cattail for a scope I'm not even sure I'm going to keep.
Tagging this for future interest.

Bringing this back from the dead.
I'm looking to pick one of these up for a Leupold http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/vx-r-riflescopes/vx-r-1-25-4x20mm-includes-metric/.
Anyone ever have any issues pop up with theirs?
Curious on how these are holding up for people. Sorry for bringing this back up just really wanted to know.
Old pic. Second one is now in use on another TR24. Knob has never worked loose, but I automatically do a check twist each time I shoot.Better leverage than a cat-tail and so quick to hand without taking eye off scope.

So far mine is also holding up well.
Still running mine on my razor, and my 1 by 4 PST still no issues and I added one 2a Super Sniper HD

Good stuff. Wish I saw this sooner, but I'm in for a try.

I ended up getting one for a Leupy. It worked very well. About the only ding I could give it is that the knob is pretty large. But for the price and what it's designed to do, I would recommend it and buy it again.
I have been using one on my Leupold Multi-Gun for about 6 months now. The price made it very tempting. Works quite well. Two gripes: 1-yes the adjustment collar is quite big. I actually trimmed mine down a bit. 2-It does tend to loosen with use. Not much but its enough that if I have the rifle on me all day I will have to retighten a couple of times.
I think this may actually protect the scope better than an aluminum cat tail if it made a direct hit on a hard surface if the rifle was ever dropped. It would transfer less energy to the body of the scope. I keep wanting to buy a Switchview to replace it but can't justify the price for how well this thing works.
