This in on a Daniel Defense M4V3 16" mid length gas system. Should the gas port be visible down the barrel?

Yes it should.

It's better to find it down the barrel than any other part of the rifle. ;)

Your eyes must be pretty good to see a hole just a couple hundreds of an inch, i've never been able to clearly see mine from just looking down the barrel. Maybe i should clean my barrels more...

If the action cycles properly then its there.

If it cycles then dont worry about it.

It's a very tiny hole.

I can think of so many jokes to go along with this. :sarcastic:

Really it would depend on the elevation. It might be visible from up the barrel. Might not be visible at all. Lot of factors to consider here.

From speaking with DD in the past, they try to get the gas port drilled into a groove of the rifling, aka between the lands. On a 1/7 twist barrel a gas port drilled into a groove of the rifling will be difficult if not next to impossible to see by the unaided eye. Due to the lands obscuring your veiw of the gas port drilled into a groove that far down the bore.

So stop worrying about it.
