Short intro, I am a new member to the board, from Pittsburgh, PA. A lot of my friends shoot AR's, and they took me to a local gun show where I purchased my first stripped lower. I would like to build the first one for home security. I am open to any suggestions...

You're going to need an upper at some point. :D

Wise guy! :p

Hello and Welcome, Grim. I would suggest that you contact Grant at G&R (he posts here as well) and he'll be able to help you out in setting up your first AR. His website is: http://www.gandrtactical.com/

Putting together a lower isn't all that bad, and there are quite a few tutorials around the 'net on exactly that topic.

HOWEVER- I would highly recommend buying a complete upper receiver (including bolt). There are lots of ways to go, but the ones worth buying are with Grant. This is a part you do not want to skimp on, as it is directly related to functionality.

Here- G&R Tactical- Upper Receivers (http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&keywords=upper)

ETA- Just saw that G&R has already been recommended, sorry. Consider this a +1.
