View Full Version : What Would You Do? (Defective Product, Pissed Off User)

I've ordered a couple of MKE 94K's last month and got hooked on the roller-lock system. I love shooting the thing, but any quantity of shooting in caliber larger than a .22 gets relatively expensive. Naturally, I ordered a GSG-5PK in .22LR to offset the training costs. Same manual of arms, blah blah...

I wanted to set my GSG up the same as my MKE, so I ordered a sling-swivel endcap from this manufacturer (withholding the name for now). I've included the email I sent them below. I went to install it this evening. Now, an hour and half later, I'm sort of pissed off.

Normally, I'd overlook it, but the fact that a) I specifically went to a rather well-known company, b) went out of my way and spent money for what I thought was quality, and c) I get the quality of a knockoff product? I'm sort of pissed.

Read on and tell me how you would respond to this situation - thanks!

Hello,

I recently ordered your <Company Name> GSG-5 endcap, from your web store, as seen here: <Link Removed>

I received the product this evening. After unboxing the product, I went to install it on my GSG-5 pistol. I carefully removed the existing endcap and attempted to install the <Company Name> endcap.

My first attempt, using very little pressure whatsoever, would not allow me to insert the endcap fully over the rear of the receiver. I removed the endcap from the receiver, made sure that there was no debris or foreign objects blocking the endcap, and carefully attempted to reinstall it - it still would not move past roughly 3/4 onto the receiver.

I removed the endcap again, checked the receiver (nothing), and lightly oiled the inset "wings" of the endcap and the receiver (as it was a VERY tight fit), thinking it might simply be a matter of loose tolerances. Still no go.

I removed the endcap yet again and took a very close look at the endcap, only to notice that there was material being shaved from the bottom of the upper circle cutout, as it was contacting the receiver and there was no way it could possibly fit the firearm without physically removing material. At this point, I'm a bit annoyed, but it's only ~30 minutes of lost time, so I'm assuming I'll just send the item back.

I remove the endcap for the fourth time and put it back into the box it came in, only to notice the rear of my receiver now has a nice 1" polished mark on the right side of the pistol. I was very surprised, as I was gentle and even went through the trouble of oiling the endcap and receiver to remove any unnecessary friction. Switching the pistol over, there's a clear scratch down the left of it, near the back. There were no marks elsewhere, so it couldn't have been from rough or careless handling.

I examine the endcap again, where I notice a protruding bar/burr of sorts, on the right inside "wing" of the endcap. So now, not only do I have an endcap that won't fit, but my pistol now has a nice mark on the receiver because someone at your company didn't bother check if the product was compatible with the firearm it was supposedly made for. Well, at least the old endcap will cover it.

I go to reinstall the factory endcap that came with the weapon and, guess what? The nice, long streak is still visible, even with the endcap fully in place - this is because the endcap that was provided goes a solid 1/2 - 3/4" past where the factory endcap goes. Now, even if I purchase another endcap from another manufacturer, my rifle is still visibly marred by your subquality, non-fitting, non-working product.

Examing the endcap again, there is no way whatsoever that the endcap could possibly fit the weapon - the contact points on the endcap (where material is being shaved away) speak for themselves. There is clearly 1/16" - 1/8" of material overlap. The material that is being shaved away is from hand-pressure alone, nothing else.

At this point, I'm very dissatisfied, as your product not only has tolerances and fit worse than the airsoft products I purposely tried to avoid, but it's now cosmetically damaged a pistol that had virtually no prior cosmetic wear, even after several range trips.

Get your money back, and drive on, sure your pistol has a scratch, and that's unfortunate, But,that's about all you can do..No matter what, I seriously doubt they're going to compensate you for the marred finish..

How much do these "end caps" cost?
