I show up at work today at our office at Ellington Field here in Houston, to find out it that it is the staging area of 4 of the storm recon aircraft poised to fly into Isaac. Along with all the press covering the event was a ton of Air Force support folks and the crews. I think this is the main base of operations.
In our main hallway, they stacked the sensors that will be deployed into the storm...

More pics to come if anyone is interested... :)
Any idea on how many of these sensors they deploy in a hurricane? I'm trying to picture dozens of these descending by parachute(?) and then being slung around by the high windspeed. Wonder if they are recoverable by locating beacon to be reused. Must be one heck of a ride to fly into hurricane. A lot of brass!

Would love to see more photos Ninja.
I assume this is the 403rd out of Keesler AFB?

Are those the actually sensors or they in a case?! I'd like to them in action. Reminds me to "Twister" lol
Can you parachute in and give us a live view of the storm? :agree:
Seriously though more pics would be great.

Those sensors look like they will be deployed out of P 3s. Out of the bouy dispensers.
Cool.
