That this rifle is going to stay this way for a long time.
I'm including this in the custom build section because to date, every part in this rifle (minus the actual upper receiver small parts like the dust cover and forward assist) were selected and installed by me.
The mission for this rifle is to be a lightweight, general purpose "outside" rifle. .22 Centerfire is legal for deer in my state and I want this to be my primary rifle so that I can learn it inside and out. You know the saying, "beware the man who only has one rifle; he probably knows how to use it." That's what I'm going for here. This gun should fill the envelope from 0-700 yds with 50-250 really being where it's mostly used.
For a purely inside rifle (home defense or to take in a vehicle), my MK18 SBR with Aimpoint T-1 fills that role. It's shorter and much easier to handle.
However, for general purpose outside use, this lightweight 16" gun should be the cat's meow. It's very light and handy, so it won't be a burden to carry, but the 1.5-5 variable optic allows me to be more precise or get hits further out than the Aimpoint would.
I didn't want a true "precision" rifle. They're generally too heavy and unwieldy. Besides, there isn't that much "long range" shooting to be done in Northeast Georgia. The chrome lined cold hammer forged barrel is less accurate than a stainless barrel would be, but I don't plan to shoot only match ammo through it anyway. With match ammo, the tests I've seen show these to be roughly 2MOA barrels. That'll work for what I need to do with it. To further help in the accuracy department, I've got a KAC 2-stage trigger and I have some 75gr Black Hills Match ammo for wringing every little bit out of it.
So without further ado, I present:
Daniel Defense Lighweight Recce
DD 16" LW Mid-gas 1:7 CHF barrel
DD Upper Receiver
DD BCG
DD CH - probably swap to BCM Mod4 when funds allow
DD RIS II, M4A1 FDE
DD Lower Receiver
DD LPK
KAC 2-stage trigger
LMT SOPMOD stock & receiver extension
Noveske QD End Plate (staked)
KAC 99051 Folding Front Sight
Matech Folding Rear Sight
Leupold MKIV MR/T 1.5-5 w/illuminated SPR Reticle
