View Full Version : Reduced Capacity Magazine
Can anyone recommend a good reduced capacity magazine, like a five or ten rounder? I need it because my rifle wont fit on the lead sled Im borrowing to zero my RDS with the 30 round mags I have, and if I want to deer hunt with it here in Oklahoma, I cant use large capacity mags. I cant recall what the exact number of rounds you can have is, but I know it is somewhere under 10, either 3, 5, or 7 rounds. So Id prefer a five rounder if someone can recommend one for me please! Thanks very much!

I bought mine going on close to 10 years ago, but bushmaster at least used to make a decent 5 round magazine.
I know colt makes 9 round mags, and I seem to remember they at one point made 5 round mags, but at my age memory can be a iffy thing.

i can say that you should advoid AR Stoner's smaller capacity mags. i was looking for smaller capacity mags at Midway.com and tried these and have had nothing but trouble. so if you find a good 5 or 10 rounder let me know as well.
What about getting a Magpul 20-rd magazine and putting the insert they sell that will reduce your round count, or fabricate your own round limiter?

The one from lancer seems to be the best deal. Thanks everyone for the advice!!!

I use a Colt 20 round mag with a wood block installed to reduce capacity to 5 rounds for hunting. Works well.
Blocked full size mags don't do anything for the clearance issue though.
Being eternally cheap, I just cut down old standard USGI mags recreating the floorplate tabs while doing so.
X number of coils cut off the spring until functional w/o bind +1 more removed for assurance, mabe a bit off the mag follower leg if you can't quite get that last round in, and run it.
Most I've done have been 10rd with a few down in the 3 to 5 capacity, though those need a paracord loop through the baseplate hole to pull them out as they sit completely in the magwell.
Still, they are available retail from bushmaster as mentioned above along with a few other places.
The disturbing part is they usually cost more than a standard capacity mag due to the comparatively low production volume.
Thanks, I noticed that the smaller mags were more expensive also! If I didnt need it Id buy two magpul thirty round pmags, which are much better, for the price of the one reduced capacity mag!
yeah, my pictures never show up for some reason.

Nevermind, I found the pic on flikr, that is pretty cool! Did you make that yourself?!?!
yep, just saw it off on the lower portion of one of the ribs. Then I heated 3 points on each side and pushed out a little plastic to make the ribs wide enough to hold the floor plate, shorten the springs and thats it.

Well, you make it sound easy enough, but Im a little uncomfortable with heating the plastic and all. If youve ever got some extra time, and feel like it, I would pay you to make one for me. If not, that's cool too. Im just thinking if I ruin one trying this, and have to buy another, that's thirty bucks right there, when I could have just given somebody that knew what they were doing thirty bucks to do it right the first time...
I could do it for you, no problem, no charge. But it really is simple. I could send you more detailed pictures if you want.
Id feel better paying you something, but we'll figure it out later. Should I just order it and have it drop shipped to you? Best place I know to get magpul P-Mags is www.botach.com, theyre $14.95 I believe with free shipping.
Does it matter if it is a 20 or 30 round mag? The reason i ask is the 20 rounder is a couple bucks cheaper...
I have only used the standard, windowless 30 rounders.
OK, then that is what Ill send...you really wanna do this for me? That is really awesome man! Umm, well I guess if you decide you do, PM me with your address, and Ill order one and have it sent out to you, and Ill email you the tracking number...
