View Full Version : Anyone remember the movie "The God's Must Be Crazy"?
If you have Comcast it is on the free movie "on demand" list (here, anyway). Man, I have not laughed so hard in some time. What a strange, yet incredibly funny, original and realistic movie it is. It is one of a kind and I am certain many here would be entertained.
Basically it is about an African bushman who finds a coke bottle that is thrown from a passing plane. He and his family are isolated from civilization, so the bottle creates a series of complex issues for the tribe, causing jealous arguments and so on. They decide the item from the heavens must be returned somehow and the finder sets out to throw it off the end of the world. The military gets involved early on, as well as a variety of other characters, and it is like nothing you have ever seen I assure you. Normally don't really get into movies, but this is something else and it will make you laugh.
Just putting that out there. :)

I saw it a couple of years ago, pretty good..
Man, it's probably been twenty years since I've seen that.
They made a sequal, but it wasn't nearly as good.

Been about 20 years for me, too and now as a 38 year old I see it in a totally new perspective. One of those low budget movies that really hits the mark. Not for everyone, but most here would probably like it a lot. I think it was up for numerous awards back then. And you are correct that the sequel was very inferior.
...back in those days, a little 6.5oz coke bottle was almost impossible to destroy...Now...there's a whole generation that hasn't even seen one...let alone used it as a hammer, projectile, etc...http://emoticons4u.com/smoking/rauch06.gif
That's a GREAT movie. Haven't seen it in years. Amazing how much trouble that coke bottle caused. :D :D :D
I'd put that one right up there with Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, and Airplane!
Oh yeah, and like Lumpy, it's probably been almost 20 years since I've seen it.
Was it the sequel where you had the white terrorist leading a band of "revolutionaries" around with Czech vz24 subguns?
In or around 1998 I had to watch that movie in 8th grade History/Social Studies Class and write a paper on it (one page!!). We had to explain the cultural and social differences between the characters.

Told a kid working in my department at previous job about getting whacked upside the head by my sister with one of pint bottles and having a concussion. I had to describe how tough those things were. The conversation went kinda like this.
Me: You know what a beer bottle is right?
DK: Yeah
Me: Well these were about twice as thick and made to be recycled over and over again
DK: Why did they make them so think if they were going to recycle them?
Me: Reuse them, as in sterilize them and then put pop back into them.
DK: *slightly horrified look on his face*
Me: Ch***t! It was like getting hit upside the head with a foot long piece of iron pipe.
DK: You mean they reused them?
Me: Get back to work.

Wow-
It's been 20 years since that came out
I need to see it again, as it's been about 18 years since I have seen it.
Nate- you got me laughing out loud with that.
It has been about 20 years since I have seen that. I remember the basic story but not much of the details. I do remember it being pretty funny though
There is another one, called Animals Are People Too, it is more of a nature documentary that is made by the same group.
Here is a clip of it, showing african animals eating a particular rotting fruit and getting drunk off of it.

I have no idea how you posted this clip, but that is one of the classic parts. Even made my 4 year old laugh yesterday and ask me to rewind it. Likely the most different yet still entertaining movie I think I have ever seen.

It is funny you mention this movie. I first saw it when i was 7 or 8 and it always made me laugh. Then during this past Christmas time I happened to catch it on TV and found myself laughing at the same scenes that I did when I was much younger.
It is a good clean comedy for people of any age.
$12.50 for both I and II on a double DVD at Amazon.
Those of us who haven't seen it in 20 years have no excuse to not buy it and watch it again ;)

Oh man, that is SOOOO funny! I can barely breathe!
I had totally forgotten about this gem. $12.50 through Amazon? That is worth every penny.
Sold!
I had seen it when I was a kid. I rented it and watched it with my wife a few months ago.
My favorite part is when the little seven year old hostage starts blazing away w/ a captured SMG, before he gets pulled back into the little group of kids by the teacher. :)
It is a great movie - compassionate without being whiny or preachy.
that's a really cool movie. :D
