Just got out of hospital and had a couple of days before going back to work and thought I would share my 41 mag. Bowen rough country rear, Clements trigger job and billboard removal

You polish off the big "this is a gun dont point it at yourself and pull the trigger" warning that ruger loves to put on their guns

Nice, I have been thinking about getting a larger caliber wheel gun

Stumbled across a Redhawk in 41 mag with the 5.5" barrel. Been looking for one for years. A sweet shooter even if it is a little on the heavy side. Now all I need is a 41 mag Marlin to go along with the Redhawk!

The Redhawk is a nice revolver. Despite that fact that it is a very large revolver, it has a nice, short, trigger reach. This is a feature that I appreciate in Ruger revolvers in general.

I figured I would contribute some Redhawk MOTO Pics.

These were taken in the heart of Elmer Keith country.

nice pics lost river. just picked up a 4" .44 redhawk myself and ordered a custom holster from trailmaster holsters out of montana. finding my new 4" ruger was difficult and i paid top dollar but worth the money and effort. makes for a perfect woods gun imho.

That one or one in 45 Colt with a 4 inch barrel is what I so want.Could there be any better 44 Mag 45 Colt platform in a double action revolver? So Lost River please elaborate on those amazing photos.BTW great wife my man.

I have a S&W 629, it is almost impossible to shoot DA well due to the long reach. The Redhawk is much more ergonomic than the S&W and the Super Redhawk is even more ergonomic than the Redhawk. Too bad the Super weighs so much. I have a Redhawk that I used to carry concealed during the winter.

Thanks for the Kudos about the wife. She is a keeper.

The pics are from an area that is about 10 minutes from a cabin and acreage I have. It is my little getaway in an area that has WAY more elk and antelope than people:

Elmer Keith, who helped the 44 mag become a reality lived up the road in Salmon, Idaho. If you read the book "Hell I was There", you will find many references to the same general area in which this cabin is located and another valley called the Pahsimeroi, which is one valley over.

I have shot more than a few big jackrabbits with a .44 magnum on the Pahsimeroi, same as Elmer. Elmer made numerous trips down the valley hunting antelope and shooting jacks along the way.

Winters are pretty tough in this country, but the scenery is killer no matter the time of year.

Getting into my place in the winter is a snowshoe kind of operation for the most part:

The mountain peak in the background of the motorcycle is the highest in Idaho (Mount Borah). It is a good climb. Here are some pics from climbing it last summer:

The primary route takes you across the right side of the mountain's edge shown in this pic:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b109/IV_Troop/538.jpg

This was very unstable snow.

This next pic show what is immediately to the left of a climber is he slips here. There is nothing to stop a fall if you cannot do a self arrest:

It is the face from the first pic, from a climber's perspective.

The team in front od me had ropes and crampons. Like a dummy, I decided to make a quick climb, sans gear, just a quick scramble. Conditions were not good. I wont do it again. Slippery, melting snow on top of ice. 10+ butt pucker factor.

The last 500 feet of the route I took was straight up this.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b109/IV_Troop/BorahJuly1st20122.jpg

Conditions were a bit wet, but it was not really bad. The climb overall is really just a long hike with a couple of tricky sections.

View down the other side onto the Pahsimeroi side. Smoke is from forest fires that were burning up near Stanley Idaho.

How was that for a local tour of the area? :)

Thanks for posting the great pics Lost River. I always loved my Redhawks and Model 29s. I always enjoy living vicariously through your pictures of them and Idaho.

My roommate from many years ago had a 41mag Redhawk. Lovely gun. People hated when we showed up at the 50' indoor range but being in the middle of Los Angeles I wasn't about to drive an hour into the mountains just to shoot my 44mag.

Hey I enjoy sharing them guys.

I have a little (very little :) ) get-away place in the area. It was a gift to myself for some years spent in the Middle East and something to pass on to the kids.

It gives me lots of opportunities to belt on a Redhawk or whatever and go exploring places that don't see a lot of people. There are a lot more critters in the area than humans, by a substantial margin. The weather can be pretty brutal at times for sure.
