Ok guys I'm weighing my options. This would be my first pistol. Would you go used G19 gen 2 or a New G19 gen 3.

Thanks

Gen 2 19.

If you do, or may in the future, need to run a light on your gun, then Gen 3. If not, whichever you get the better deal on.

I have a recently made 3rd Gen G19. Made in April 2012.

Don't think that you will avoid the infamous brass to the head by buying a Gen 3 vs a Gen 4. Mine did not start dinging me in the head with brass until about round number 700-800.

So you will hear tons of guy with new 3rd gen G19s saying "mine runs fine...I don't know what the fuss is about" when they don't have but maybe 100-200rds through the thing.

I'd grab the 2nd gen gun and shoot happy. My 2nd gen G17 has been stellar since I bought it in 1994. In fact...I often wonder why I bought other 9mms when this G17 has been literally no trouble at all. never got hit with brass from a 2nd gen Glock...ever.

In fact, I would trade my nearly new G19 for a nice 2nd gen G19 right now...if I could find one.

Is there anything more other than brass to the melon on Gen 2 vs Gen 3. I have a gen 3. 19. But it's CCW, so I don't shoot the shit out of it.

Any other issues to be aware of?

Why not get a older gen 3?

The finger groves don't bother me and I prefer to have a light rail if I choose to run a light in the future.

Neither, I'd get a Walther PPQ.

I echo the comments previously posted. If you don't need the rail, the Gen 2 is nice. However, I am very happy with my Gen 3 Glocks. After much internal debate, I recently purchased a few Gen 4's over the last several months. Knock on wood, they've been flawless so far. Good luck with your choice.

PPQ or Caracal

Check out a Caracal C. You might be surprised. I was.

I have a couple Gen2 Glocks, and now I wish I had bought a Gen3, because I want to be able to put a light on at least one...

Oh for those halcyon days when Glocks were trouble free...except for the infamous NYPD phase 3 malfunctions and erratic ejection and other issues.

+3 on the Walther PPQ...

Gen 2

Unless you absolutely have to have a light on it. At which point I would buy a 34 since a light will be that long anyway.
