I'm putting together a lightweight rifle based on an A1 profile Fulton Armory 20" barrel and Apex handguards. I'm still deciding on a stock for the build though. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the UBR, CTR or just an A1. I don't know if I need a collapsible stock, but it'd be nice in the winter with a coat. I know that the UBR is heavier, but I'll be counterbalancing that 20" barrel and it's supposed to have very solid lockup (like a fixed stock). Any suggestions appreciated.

The UBR aint light... but i have one on my lightweight midlength and it balances perfectly. That would be my first choice.

Isn't a lightweight 20" rifle an oxymoron?:D

Masa is correct, the UBR is not light, but it does a good job of balancing a midlength and will probably do the same on a 20" rifle. It's also a very solid stock. However, it's not cheap.:fie:

this isn't going to be a space rifle...really just what I need. Probably a trijicon accupoint for optics and the slick apex handguard. Should come in at under 9 lbs. The A1 profile barrel is very light. I want to do the stock right the first time. I've been saving for this for a while.

A1. Very light, balances well.

A1 stock is the most logical, the other one would be getting the -1 position VLTOR A5 RE and an MOE or IMOD stock. The latter seems counterintuitive, but is actually pretty light and works with 20" rifle very smoothly. If you want a heavier stock (iirc those Apex handguards are actually very heavy for what they offer), then just go with the EMOD/A5 package.

How about the new Magpul fixed stock they just released? Check out their website - not sure how light it is but I'm thinking about getting one...

Just another choice in A1 length.

That's nice and artsy stick, but I like this one better. :)

I put a Vltor A1 Clubfoot on my Apexed 20. I liked the look, but the cheek weld is nice, it's light, and it has built in sling attachments.

I'm a fan of the original A1 stock, or the modern iteration sold by Fulton Armory (and produced--I think---by Cav Arms). I tend to run collapsible stocks at or about the A1 length anyway, and prefer a fixed vice adjustable stock. (Fewer moving parts, and no exposed receiver extension/buffer tube.)

The Vltor A5 is probably the best hardware change for the AR to come out in a long time. You would be crazy not to put it on a new build.

A1 for sure

UBR's are nice. I like mine. Don't think you can use A5 with them though. It's really personal preference, and you never really know till you have it and shoot it.

+10 for the A1
