Im not a fan. The LOP is far to long, so is the barrellength imo. M4 is my preffered system.

I have one, carried one on my first tour. Built it as a target rifle so I don't forget what its all about.

Yes sir, the A2 is my favorite AR.

My first AR experience was with my dads Colt HBAR A2 rifle in 1993, and so for me it has positive reinforcement. Sure the LOP is too long for most but there is something nostalgic about the good old A2.

I like my BCM AR15A4 as well. I configured it with a DD Omega rifle length quad rail and Magpul MIAD and PRS stock. I also installed an LMT 2 stage trigger on it. I wish I had that rifle's configuration when I was on active duty.

Always one of my favorite rifles to shoot. LOP was fine for me, and always found it easy to hit with.

Sli5e an A5 w/ a Vltor EMOD on one and that setup may be in my future.

I have often thought of getting one for service rifle competitions, from what I have heard amongst some Hi power shooters is that they put an A1 stock on it to adjust the length of pull a little.
I may have to do some research to find a nice competition rifle now.

I built up some old M16A2 parts recently for nostalgic purposes.

After handling carbines for so long an A2 seems cartoon huge...

Shot a true Vietnam era M16A1 a few days ago, I was very impressed, what an accurate and easy to shoot well rifle:-) granted it had the giggle switch, but even in semi auto it was a super smooth rifle. I think I'll pick up an SP1 just to have one.

I had the flat top version of the A2 and I like it very much. I only sold it because I knew it was just a matter of time before I hacked the FSB for clearance for a scope. Used the funds to build a 20 inch precision AR with a free float tube. The simple flat top A2 is still one of my favorite configurations to shoot

Soooooo... an "A4 type?"

Probably. It was a Colt Competition HBar. Back in the day, it was known as the A2 flat top

Replacing the A2 buttstock with an A1 solves the lop issue for me.
I have a preban A2 Colt sporter, and will never part with it.

Carried an issued one for years and never felt under armed. My department still issues the Colt Match Target Rifle.

Yup, Colt AR-15A2 in my safe, bought it between Federal ban fever, State "assault rifle" paranoia and "black guns are for killing people" rage in 1993. The price had gone from around $600 up to $1,200 almost overnight after the import ban, I waited it out, and when I saw them in one of the local gun shops for $600 again a few years later I jumped at the opportunity to get one. Never regretted it, and still don't. It suits me fine, even after getting other M4's. I, too, see absolutely no reason to ever part with it. After buying it I always felt like I had beaten the system somehow, maybe you had to be there to know what I'm talking about.

Not my favorite. The length of pull is too long for me and mounting optics on it sucks.

I prefer the A2 over the M4 any day of the week. I have both and I actually prefer the A2 to shoot. The M4 is cool looking and Im sure its better in close quarter combat but the A2 is just so much sweeter to shoot. I had one of these..an early R6500 exactly like this.

Isnt that an A1, not an A2.?

Seeing them brings back a wave of nostalgia from carrying them for a few years, but I sure am glad I'm issued a M4 now. It's sort of like hearing a fax being sent: it reminds me of the days of my youth when I had dial up internet, but I'm sure glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

Its an early Colt A2 SporterII, the Army and USMC were getting all the A2 uppers so Colt sold this to us civilians. It has a A2 USGI profile barrel, longer butt stock as well as the different piston grip. When I was active duty in the Army with the 25th ID I originally had a A1 (my all time favorite) later on we got the A2s. I got out in 1986 and bought the A2 sporterII, I like this one because it had the A2 barrel but without the A2 rear sight which is a total waste IMHO.

Sure, I like the A2! Brings back memories of Pendleton. With that said, if we're going to talk muskets, I'd rather have an A1 any day of the week than an A2, with the caveat that I'd want to swap out A2 handguards for the old triangles. I prefer the a) shorter stock, b) simpler sights, and c) lighter barrel profile of the A1 vice the A2.

And the 20" AR (of whichever flavor) only seems big until you put it next to a Springfield 1903A3-----then it seems like a lightweight, fast handling carbine.
