Currently I have a S&W M&P15OR ... w/ Midwest Industry front BUIS and a Matech rear BUIS, with an Eotech EXPS-1. This is my main gun, but I got to thinking, too many pieces to fail if things fall apart in society. Think of this as a BUG, or one for the wife if things really turn sour.

So, I made a second, slightly more basic model. Weighs in currently at 6.8lbs. Tried to keep it with as robust (and simple) as possible.
LMT upper - M4 profile, 1:7 barrel. Came w/o BCG, CH or rear sight.
I did swap out the rail for the basic M4 profile handguard.
LRB Lower - PSA internals
BCM Gen-2 charging handle
LMT FA bolt
Matech rear BUIS
ACOG TA-26r. There's a no-name mount underneath to give it a
1/3 cowitness, since the stock mounting point is absolute.
Waiting for my sling, some off-brand I find in the gun shows for $20 - it's a convertible 1&2 point sling.

I tried to show the reticle. As you can maybe see, the front site and the reticle do NOT overlap. It seems the rail on the upper is slightly unleveled, canted slightly to the left (ie, the side w/ the safety)

EDIT: Folks below discussing the mount. The following is the ACOG on a Larue mount - you can see how the reticle and FSP align. Better than the first riser I used.

You really believe it is the upper and not the POS mounting apparatus you've come up with?
I wonder if it will even hold a zero.

Get yourself a proper mount and be happy.

The ACOG is in a Trijicon mount, so it might be the spacer, but it still wasnt an exact cowitness. Plus, the reticle was blocked by the FSB as originally mounted.

ETA:
here's what the ACOG looks like directly on the rail. Sorry the reticle isn't quite as clear - you can see it's somewhat blocked by the front sight post, which is why I tried the riser.

Pretty sure slapping a lower and upper together doesn't constitute a custom build on this site..and that riser seems like an awful idea, why would you think an LMT upper would be responsible for the cockeyed reticle alignment before that thing?

Quoted directly from the forum title:

"Project" being the key word. It doesn't necessitate needing to build from the ground up. Just because most of the posts are much more "bits & pieces" doesn't mean it's mandatory.

I'm not a gunsmith, I've never claimed to be, nor will I.

As for your second question, I've already stated it might be the riser. Using a bubble level, the rail and the riser both appear to have the same degree of slant. The riser may be the problem. I have a different riser, and plan to try that tomorrow.

Edit: pics in the OP using a Larue riser. Further discussion welcome.
