September 23rd was 100% gorgeous for my second carbine course with Chris. Day started off with paperwork and safety brief then off to zero. Always the slowest part of the day though made much less painless due to everyone having an optic, partly due to Chris' loaning of one of his to a student. Chris went over offset and that being key in shooters hitting or missing that 3x5 card. This was something that did slip out of mind for everyone from time to time but Chris had no problems reminding us. His switch for me were the mom jokes :p

After going over prone and the different variations of the kneel we shot the 10-2 and half and half along with several timed and un-timed drills, always the focus being accurate hits on target. Chris went over reloads and at that point all were responsible for keeping their blaster fed whether through admin of round count or free training methods.

After shooting more drills on paper (2xbody 1x head, viceversa) and taking shots at steel on the clock we broke for lunch. Chris talked about slings and the 2-point vs. single-point (2-points rock) lights (incan. and LED) optics and need for good magazines, especially if rocking a 9mm carbine. He also went over lube points and a few pieces of kit to make maintenance a tad easier.

We went back to work with transitions to our support shoulder and firing being very attentive to alter our stance accordingly; ran drills inside 25yds and switching to our secondaries if our primaries went dry or malf'd. We did this on the clock as well and on average discovered rocking the handgun is about 1-1.5 seconds faster than a carbine reload. Day was finished up shooting steel from various distances out to 100yds (Lee rocked us all on this one... well he rocked us all day long) and working in closer making shots on the 3x5 card whilst switching targets. Chris also brought along a .22lr AR for us all to shoot some and made the point that it's a damn good investment for more trigger time on the relative cheap, especially with the prices nowadays.

I also attended his pistol class the day before and all my holsters and pouches are Spectre Koncealment Systems gear which I got turned on to after my first class with Chris. They're a local bunch to me so it's nice to put money back into my area, not to mention it's all great kit.

Being the fourth class I've taken from Chris it should speak to the fact that he's a great dude to train with having that mixture of observing a student, giving the feedback and positive criticism one needs to improve all the while having an awesome attitude. Without a doubt I will take more classes with him in the future.

Great first carbine class for me. I feel comfortable operating a carbine now. Chris Frank has a wealth of knowledge that extends far beyond the basic class. Although the class is focused on basic skills there is something here for shooters of all levels. This is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
