What is the general result's of your use of the 20 rounders in your pet AR rifle's. I like the 30 rounders, but have not tryed the shorter brother's.

Mine have been absolutely GTG. Magpul is quality gear IMO.

BTW, I find the 20 rd. mag easier to move with and shoot from a rest.

I've had good results as well. I, too, use the 20s for prone/bench shooting.

I am still wondering when they're going to update them so the dust covers will attach to the bottom of the magazine, like the 30-rounders have been able to for a long time now.

I purchased three 20 rounders to use during a training class while shooting prone. I had multiple FTF malfunctions with all three. I tried different ammo with the same results. I switched to 30 round P-Mags and had no malfunctions with either of the previous types of ammo. They definitely don't work well in my gun. YMMV

Out of four that I have owned I had one that had multiple FTFs. I have since sold then all off and replaced them with Brownells or NHMTG. I like the Brownells because you can put Ranger plates on then easily.

Never had an issue with the 30 round PMags, but I just don't trust the 20s.

Zero problems on the 3 Pmag 20's that I have, low round count, used for local IDPA style rifle matches and plinking.

Looks like they seem to be hit and miss with many people, which should be enough for most to stay away from them.

Unless you have a specific need or want, quality 30rd mags should be the way to go,

I will get a few more 20's because they have worked well me and for my purpose.

i've primarily shot the 20rounders when im at the ranch. Never had a problem in the last three years with them.

Perhaps there are some issues specific to the 20-round pmags with respect to fitment in some lowers causing feed issues. Or maybe when using them as a monopod-style support, the different geometry of the straight box magazine compared to the curved 30-rounders effectively changes the alignment of the top cartridge, which leads to feeding issues. I don't know why the 20-round pmags seem to cause problems for some, but not for others...

4 FDEs have had no issues in my SCAR 16 (modified to clear the bolt catch), 1 each black and OD green as well have been good in my ARs.

The 20 rounder has had problems on some guns with bolt over round malfunctions ( had one of these with my 20 rounder, I ditched the mag) /or failure to lock the bolt back. Most of the problems have been traced to either it's shape/design or the follower which is an older design. IIRC Magpul is working on a new version which will address these issues.

In fact Duane from Magpul mentioned it in this thread from last week

I havent had any problems with the 20rnd PMAGs that I have. They are great for shooting off a bench or when going prone on a precision rig and want a low profile. -- One of my squad leaders in Iraq used the PMAG 20s exclusively as his carry magazines and never had a problem, he really liked the lower profile.

I've carried 20's as primary in my various weapons for many years while on patrol, SWAT, or using an AR based precision rifle. I have a couple P-Mags that work well and have had a few others that didn't, they got "hammered". I've had the same issues with several different synthetic 20 rounders. I've still got a dozen original Colt 20's and they are still my most trusted 20 rounders. I need to order a pair of the Lancers as I've heard a few others comment positively about them.

I only use 20s in two ARs - an A1 CAR in which I run USGI 20s, and a 20" bipod rifle that currently runs a few PMAG 20s.

I'm seriously thinking about trying translucent Lancers for the 20" but I'm cheap enough that I'll wait until I can find a good price - AIM's $9 is appealing, but shipping for three mags is almost $15.

I've got 10 Pmag 20 rounders and have never had a problem with any of them. I also have 4 Pmag 20 round 308 mags and haven't had any problems with them either.

Like some of the guys on page 1 said, I've had fails to lock back. This is on both 20 rnd mags I have

Not FTF issues or anything else, nice lock up in the receiver and don't get hung up when changing magazines.

Only got between 500-600 rounds through my one fde magpul 20 round mag. Been perfect so far. I really enjoy this mag for shooting from a bench.

I never had problems out of my DPMS rifle with 2-20 Rd mags, but I took my new rifle with Black Rain Ordinance lower with a VLTOR upper out this weekend and had a FTF every time I put 20 rds in it. After putting only 19 I never had another problem. The feed lips were also scraped up on the bolt side so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

i used 20 round PMAGs in my SPR at John McPhee's recent precision marksmanship class in Wisconsin. They ran flawlessly for me all weekend. I will note that John said that he doesn't like any PMags. He and his AI both agreed that about 30% of them are bad right out of the bag and that another 50% will go bad sooner rather than later because of the metal bolt scraping the plastic feedlips.

That's a very strong statement -- 30%-50% defective?

He should share this data with MagPul. It's a fine company and I'm sure they'd like to address these issues.

I do not have big sample, only 3 of those. I think from first year of manufacture. Out of this 3 initially all was bad. Followers were hanging (front part) in middle of travel. I did some "bed in" by forcefully pressing and releasing followers with rod like several dozen times. This helped with stuck followers, but still from time to time those mags just did not feed next round and bolt did not lock back on them. I installed springs from USGI 30rd magazines and now they work good. Capacity is limited to 17-18 rounds, but I installed 10rd limiters anyway.

I have much better experience with E-Mag.

I have about 50 twenty rounders...

If you shoot enough, with enough mags, any type/brand/quantity will eventually have an issue or you will eventually get a bad seed.

That said, i love the pmag 20 rounders and have had very little issue with any of mine.

My whopping sample size of a whole two 20 round pmags have been 100% reliable through my BCM so far..knock on wood.

I have 4, one in each color and have had no problems with any of them.

I mainly use them for bench shooting and when I let new shooters shoot my rifle. I've never ran them hard on a combat course though.

I use 20's all the time and while my favorites are USGI, I do have about 30 Pmags and have not had any issues. I did run across something the other day though. My cousin has a 204 upper that when using Pmags would scrape the case and jam. I told him to try another lower and the same Pmags works fine now.

Curious as to what the better mouse trap is.

I have 2 20 rounders that I use multiple times a week for offhand and bench shooting. On the bench I get more failures to lock back with my 30rd pmags that have the ranger plates resting on the bench.

In a nutshell; I love my 20rd pmags...no problems, out of the way (unless you want a monopod), and lighter!

I only have two of the 20-rounders, as I only regularly use them for bench shooting, but they both function perfectly in the only AR I use for bench shooting, a Colt 6920 (not that a 6920 is a great bench rifle or anything, I just enjoy the challenge and this one's set up accordingly). I've never had a single feeding issue, nor have I had the bolt fail to lock back. Nowhere near the round counts of any of my 30-rounders, though.

Same with my 2 FDE ones. The two black 20rds don't get shot as much, but no issues to date. Colt 20rd and two different C-products 20rds have never failed.

I have two FDE and one black 20-rounder that I use regularly in my Colt 6933. I don't use the carbine hard, but haven't had a malfunction yet the 5 or 6 hundred rounds I've fired through them(mainly shooting Wolf Military Classic).
