Which is the latest / greatest extractor spring combo for CARBINE gas system? Gonna buy from these guys as I understand they carry genuine Colt parts.

www.specializedarmament.com

SP64026 - EXTRACTOR SPRING ASSY (W/ BLACK INSERT), COLT FACTORY STANDARD - $5.00

SA05006 - EXTRACTOR SPRING ASSY, S/A HEAVY DUTY (GREEN) W/ BLACK INSERT - $5.00

Any other BETTER extractor spring combo out there and by whom?

The best extractor spring should have 5 coils instead of 4 and will meet 9002 specifications.

With a rifle-length gas system, what is the best extractor setup? I've read on here before that an o-ring is unnecessary with rifle-length systems.

A crane o ring should only be used as a temporary solution or as an emergency to a failing extractor spring.

Then why do they come installed on many well respected carbines from the factory.

Marketing and to reduce the chance of failed extraction for the end consumer on a newly purchased rifle. When you see people posting the issue of ripped rims or damaged rims from the extractor, this is often caused by over function as a result of the o ring being installed.

+1, I talked to RSilvers about this alot and he also suggested the new Colt extractor spring and insert as the best option out there.

Colt has consolidated the part for the carbine and rifle. Part #SP64026, the copper color spring and black insert, works across the board.

I like the Extractor Spring kits from http://www.sprinco.com/tactical.html. I do not use O-rings anymore, just the their spring and black insert.

I still just use the standard rifle spring and O-ring.
