I have been debating on stippling my G22 frame or just get the Talon grip tape.
If you have either, some pics and opinions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

No experience with Talon Grips, but I used to put 3M tread tape on my 34. It was great at first but it quickly looses its aggressiveness and it also began to slide around on the frame.

After using the 3M for about a year, I finally caved and broke out the wood burner. I wished I had done it long before I did.

I say go for it.

Stippling > grip tape

I would say stipple the grip. I had grip tape on my Glock for a while and I hated having to replace it every few months. Granted I am not familiar with the Talon grips. I used some skateboarding tape that I molded around grips. It served its purpose for a while but I needed something a bit more permanent.

I used a $20 Radio Shack soldering iron with an extra fine point tip. The set had different tips so you have options on the level of stippling you want. The stippled grip just "melts" into your hands. $20 bucks and a few hours of labor was the best investment for this Glock 30 SF.

I liked the grip so much that I stippled some PMAGs and a VFG I had.

Thanks for the pics guys. Picked up a soldering tool @ HomeDepot and give it a try. Trying to decide the tree bark effect or just the fine dot effect.
Should I lightly sand the factory texture on both sides down until it is smooth?

Nope.

I did sand down my Glock 30 SF grips prior to stippling it. But after completing the stippling, I realized I didn't need to do that. The stippling will blend it all in. Good luck with the project and post pictures when you're done!

I sanded mine down, and so did the couple of guys I spoke to about the work before I did it:

Do you have a pic of the front strap on that? I've got a OD Gen 3 that I've been wanting to do (so far I've only done Gen 2s) but I love their feel so much I'd like to try and duplicate it, but grinding away the finder guards is what is keeping me from it so far.

For the OP I'm another believer in stippling.

Not what you specifically asked about, but I use the Agrip. Feels like suede leather a bit, but grips very well, even wet. It's also very comfortable for CCW.

If it's slick, cut you a section of bicycle inner tube and make you a home-made Hogue-type slip over grip.

It's looking good! I like your setup. I am planning on getting a Glock 17 Gen4 and having a RMR installed on the slide. Where did you have that done? Are those Trijicon night sights too? If so, what model? Thanks.

Thanks,
Mark @ L&M PrecisionGunworks did the milling, RMR install, CereKoted the slide and the Trijicon Suppressor NS. If you look on his site under products page 2 you will see my slide as one of the pics.
And you can use the guncoater for your choice of colors.

Thanks for the info. I think the site is down for maintenance... it won't load when I click the link or when I go a google search for it.

So I'm told my G22 is just for shooting paper not gun fighting.
Here is the quote.

Dude,

I'm just giving you my opinion and these are the general opinions of many other instructors as well.
Anyone that actually carries a subcompact always adds a finger extension or plus 2 which makes the grip the same length as the compact model so it's a waste as far as carrying.
TFO's are GTG
The .40 itself is an over pressurized cartridge
Ammo cost which means you won't shoot as often
More recoil and slower for follow up shots
Very "snappy" recoil (Especially in a SC model)
Lower round count
They blow up more guns than any other caliber combined (Including Glocks)

Wait until you get about 10K rounds through your 22 and see if you have any problems?
My stuff is for gun fighting not just for shooting paper

cant comment on personal carry options.

but 40 is an over pressurized round like the 357sig..
and many "experts" will argue that over pressurized rounds are not smart to carry in a combat handgun,
normally this opinion is followed by the quote "if a 9 or 45 wont kill it you should be using a rifle"

but ive carried and shot a 40 for almost 5 years now without any exploded guns.

yes its snappier and a little "harder" to shot but training and experience are the great equalizer.

and its not that much more expensive.

"one more addition" - you can always just buy a 9mm barrel and mags and convert the gun to just shoot 9's

Sometimes I wounded why people even open there mouths when all that comes out is how bad someone else's gun is.
A Glock is a fighting gun, sorry to say.

Finally stippled my EDC Glock 26 Gen4. Since it's a IWB carry and has a RTF, I only stippled the trigger guard and the front grip area.

For those with stippled grips, how comfortable is it IWB? Does it rub the skin raw? Does it catch on clothing (shirts)? I played with some Talon grips but it would catch my shirt frequently.

I've shot pistols with grip tape, A-grips, and Hogue grips, and nothing feels better to me than a good stipple job. I've stippled a G23 (which I terribly regret selling) and numerous AR parts. Not only does stippling serve as a long lasting solution, but the satisfaction you get out of "customizing" your own gun goes a long way.

The extent to which stippling will cause chafing or clothing grab depends on the pattern of the stipple. All do it to some extent, and certain patterns more than others. Having said that, Talon grip tape is the most abrasive surface for skin and clothing. It is far worse than any stipple job that I've seen and reeks havock on my Under Armour shirts. It will also do a number on the seat leather in you car. In fact, I would only consider Talon or any other grip tape for dedicated OWB or thigh carry in a humid environment.

For sure go with a stipple job. I've shot Decal Grips, Talon Grips and then finally a stipple job. No comparison, and I have had stippling done on all my pistols that I have for carry and competition

I say go with the stippling. I spent about four hours shooting in the rain on Friday and really appreciated the stippling,

Not a Glock, but here is mine:

Had a guy wanting to trade me a Eotech 553 (Tan) and $250 for my G22.
I thought that was an insult to my intellagance.
