Hey guys,

Wondering what handguns have the fewest parts these days? Still Glock? Any rivals?

I would venture to guess that the Walther PPQ and Caracal F/C are coming close in the more is less department.

The makarov has only 30 parts, and has a detachable grip and a couple parts more to joint it to the frame.

The Glocks Gen4 have 34 parts, IMO at least two more if you count the recoil spring assembly properly.

The glocks Gen 3 have 33 parts, if you count the recoil spring assembly as one part.

The walther PPQ has 48 parts.

The caracal has 33 parts if you count the recoil spring assembly (spring, guide and washers) as one part.

I was told that the Caracal pistols only have 28 parts. That is pretty low.

The caracal has 33 parts, it is in their manual. And this is still counting the recoil spring assembly as one.

Based on the glock and caracal, it is difficult to cut on parts. The makarov has less parts but is a blowback design.

Makes me wonder how many parts my beloved HKs have.

So how many parts do USP/HK45 have? Double the Glock or what?

HK VP70?

There has to be some advantage to a blowback operated 9mmP pistol.

And even more if it is polymer and doesn't have separate grips, right?

But the VP 70 was designed by germans, and has 53 parts :D

Enough badmouthing about german overengineering, let's see the venerable Mausuer 1896 (just 116 years old!):

http://gunman.biz/sheme/G-O/Mauser%2096.jpg

It doesn't have a detachable magazine body, but just 33 parts including two wooden grips, their screw, and an adjustable tangent sight! :D

As said above (twice, and including link to the caracal manual including exploded view... :suicide: ) the caracal has 33 parts. See pages 28-29.

Yeah, that's interesting. They market the thing as having only 28 parts, and when you look at the parts diagram they list parts 1-28.

But there are several pins that are part number 2a, 2b, 5c, 6a, and 24c.

So if you count the pins, it comes up to be more parts.

That's somewhat deceptive advertising on their part.

the only HK i've owned was a P7. It definitely had more than 30 something parts...

I'd estimate nearer to 100 parts.

Steyr M9A1 might be up in the running. But probably won't be beating the makarov

At 100 years old, the 1911 has only 37 parts, including EVERYTHING. Grip screws, mainspring housing pins and caps.

If you count the mainspring and hammer assemblies (similar to counting the Glock recoil assembly as one) together then the count goes down to ~34.

Not counting the magazine, I count 51.

Subtract a couple/three for LEM.

That's a Series 80 1911. Also, there are magazine springs etc in your 51 count. Also, some assemblies can be counted together, since the Glock is getting a pass for the recoil assembly.

Oops, I missed the Magazine follower, make it 50 then.

Here is another list for M1911A1, it isn't a whole lot shorter.

We need to get John_Wayne777 to post how many parts a Hi Point has.
