Gents, I have a quick question...

1) Do any of you have any idea which weight buffer the M&P Sport comes with? It's clearly not an H as it doesn't say anything on it.

I'm assuming it's a lighter buffer, therefore, can a 20" rifle upper be directly slapped on and be ready to go?

I have friend who want's a nicer upper than the current M&P sport upper. I just need to know if he will need to get any different springs, buffers, or even receiver extensions.

I honestly have no clue.

I did notice that the Canucks have full size rifles on collapsible stocks. What's their buffer and spring set-up like?

A rifle buffer weighs approximately 5.1 to 5.3 ounces. An H3 buffer is about the same. You will more than likely need to use an H3. I recommend you get the Vltor A5.

The Vltor A5 is the way to go. But if you're sticking with the carbean action spring and RE, the H2 matched the physics of the Rifle system the closest when rsilvers ran some measurements on this.

Correct - Colt Canada issues a 20" M16 with a collapsible stock that uses an "HH" buffer, which is almost identical in weight to the H2.

Follow up question:

What's market value worth for a very lightly used 16" carbine M&P Sport upper? (without BCG and rear sight).

It only has +/- 100 rnds fired thru

$300 ish

Really?
considering no f/a or trapdoor?

After seeing that MSRP is $739, would $200 be fair for the upper minus sight and BCG?

You can definitely get more than that.

$250? $300?

$300-350 is doable depending on the market. I know you could easily get that for it in the Carolinas

Instead of starting a new thread (sorry OP if I hi-jack yours real quick), I am putting a BCM 20" Govt. on my post-ban Bushamster. The lower is a full A2 with the rifle stock, but came with a carbine upper with an A2 receiver and that stupid AK-74 muzzle brake.

What can I get out of the post-ban Bushmaster upper made back in the 90's?

Rojocorsa: What made you want the 20"? I'm looking to do some CMP shoots with mine, but not expecting miracles. They say going the 5.56 route on a match is an instant added 10 point benefit over a .30.

98k,

I should clarify that I'm doing a favor for close friend. He started out with a BNIB "used" M&P Sport he got for less than $700 in CA (which is a good deal, these tend to go for 725-750 BEFORE fees and taxes here).

Anyway, my buddy wants an an A-4 upper (which is already on the way from Bravo) because it strikes his fancy and most likely due to the longer sight radius and all the attributes that 20" ARs have. Eventually, I think he's planning to do an A-4 style replica with the RAS rail, etc.

I'm still 50% there on my first AR, actually. My plan has been to get a 16" middy Bravo upper. I can't wait for my friend's 20" upper to get here because I have no real experience shooting those. But yeah, they make for better target rifles.
